How to find a misplaced phone?

I seem to misplace mine at home often, is there an easy way to locate it with a tag, tile or some kind of gadget? How & where do you attach it?

Can you email a friend & ask them to call it?

If you have Alexa, you can program it to ring your phone with the command, "Find my phone." It will even ring if I leave my phone outside.

Grrr, I have misplaced the recipe for sour cream coffecake.

Excuse ME, I posted the wrong recipe. Had to do a search and THIS IS THE ONE! It's wonderful!! Sour Cream Coffee Cake (have made this many times) 1 box white cake mix 1 box instant vanilla pudding 8 oz. sour cream 1/2 c. vegetable oil 4 eggs Mix all ingredients together at once. Beat AT LEAST 5 minutes - DON'T UNDERBEAT! Topping: 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup chopped walnuts 1-1/2 heaping teaspoon ground cinnamon 1-1/2 heaping teaspoon cocoa Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour a 10" bundt pan. Put half of the batter in pan and sprinkle with half the topping. Add the rest of the batter. Sprinkle the rest of the topping. Cut through well with knife so that topping is mixed with the batter. Bake 1 hour. Cool 10 minutes before turning out.

I don't think this will help but I'll share it. I wanted to get a bluetooth keyboard for my Ipad. I went to Staples. Found the keyboard but began looking at chairs and laptop tables. Wound up buying a chair. They put the chair in my car. I then visited other stores in the shopping center. When I got home, I left all my packages in the car. Next day I thought I'd hook up the keyboard. Guess what? No Ipad. I searched and realized I lost the Ipad. I have an iphone and hit 'find my Ipad.' It continually said it was not turned on and couldn't locate it. I immediately went back to Staples and the sales people helped me search but no one could find it. I kept trying my Iphone to locate the IPad. It kept saying it couldn't locate it. I went to every store and walked through the stores searching for it. Salespeople helped (how embarrassing). I called Apple and asked them why the Iphone was not locating the Ipad. A very nice guy explained that the battery could be dead or it was shut off. I explained neither was the case as it was on when I was testing the keyboard. I never shut it off. It had been charged the night before and was 100%. He then said it could be out of range of a cell tower or wireless router. I was certain it was inside a store and all had wirelesss. Long and short, I did find it. An employee in Staples realized I left it behind when I left the store. He put it in the stores safe. He was off when I was searching for it. He did not let anyone know it was in the safe. The app did not work. I'm guessing it might have to do with it not connecting to another router without permission (makes no sense since I used it in their store), but its useless as far as locating it. Follow Snidely's advice. Although, I can't imagine dealing with my kids (who are now adults) with these devices. I'm not sure how a parent today controls what their kids do with phones, internet, computers. I never had to deal with that. Other stuff for sure, but not electronics and internet. Good luck, Jane

I assume you tried rebooting phone and computer. Maybe the refurbished phone is defective. I would let apple deal with it. Google photos doesn't generate any posting codes that I can see as I use the app on my phone and I don't think imgur does either. If they do some one please explain how you do it. That's the problem most are charging now for 3rd party hosting. Photobucket has changed their prices and the cheapest I think is $4 a month now for 3rd party hosting. Try picture trail as I believe they still have free 3rd party hosting. I am using imgbb. Can't store all my photos there but it does allow me to upload one at a time and generates posting codes. Some are also using funkyimg but again can upload one at a time and not store them. Flickr was bought out by smugnug I think so imagine they will be charging for 3rd party hosting soon. Bad thing about Flickr is the app doesn't generate posting codes like the photobucket app does. I may end up getting the cheapest plan since I used to use the app on my phone a lot for posting. It was so easy and convenient and generated the codes. Mary

Get on Skype or one of the other services using a PC or tablet and call it yourself.

Go to a neighbor's house, explain to them what is going on, and ask them to call you.

If it’s an iphone, you can ping it from a linked apple watch.

We have a landline. When DH misplaces his iPhone he calls it, It's usually in the house somewhere,,,

IS this an iPhone or Android? Do you have any kind of Google home? You said no to Alexa. Google will tell you the location of your phone.

And yes a Tile or Airtag would help you locate it also.

I misplace mine all the time. i use the Find My Phone app on my ipad to locate it. My son texts me to call him when he misplaces his.

Hope you found it, but I don't understand why an email to a friend would take too long. Many people get emails right to their phones and could call you pretty quickly.

When we had a landline it had a locator button which would make the handset beep until found if you are referring to a landline, get a phone with that feature

Crickets from the OP but yet another way: You can send an email as a text message. Many carriers have this capability. If the phone number is (123) 456-7890, then an email sent from a pc or tablet to be received as a text by a Verizon phone customer would be addressed to 1234567890@vtext.com. Another way to make your own phone make a noise.

The addresses I found in an article are

AT&T : @txt.att.net

Cricket Wireless: @sms.cricketwireless.

T-Mobile: @tmomail.net

UScellular: @email.uscc.net

Verizon: @vtext.com

If you have a google account on your phone, for example gmail, you can go to https://myaccount.google.com/find-your-phone

I haven't had to use it but did go there to see the options, You can ring your phone for up to 5 minutes even if it's set on silent. You can also elect to lock the phone or, if you think it's lost to you forever, you can erase your data from it.

All good advice. Short of all that, I would look in my car first. The floor between the seats etc.

Then gonthrough my house methodically if I am deep cleaning. Behind cushions etc.

Make a list you might have dropped it. Did you go on a walk? Retrace your steps.

I’ve found my phone in odd places. We get distracted.

Hope you found it by now.

I am embarrassed at how many times I ask Alexa to call my phone. I used to be Alexa averse. It was stupid and I didn't need it. Then I got one for next to nothing and found out how incredibly helpful it is. In the kitchen when I need to make a quick conversion from metric to imperial, I ask Alexa. (And I just asked Alexa what the opposite of metric was as I was typing.) I have one in the bathroom in case I fall in the shower - I will be able to call for help. If you live alone, think about that. Then there is just the "I'm curious" questions. I will be watching TV and am curious how old an actor is. I ask Alexa.

Graywings123, thx for sharing how you use Alexa, especially the idea of having Alexa in the bath. I hadn't considered how useful it could be, just thought of it an another gadget I didn't need.
