Instead of a new thread, I was wondering if anyone has any new opinions or pics. We are purchasing the Wolf 36" AG with griddle and have chosen the VAH wall mount style - EPH18-236, but are waffling on the 24" and 27" depth. I order this week and I haven't been able to find this combination of range and hood in pic or person. It looks like the 24" would work, since the front of the range is 24.5 ". My husband is 6' tall and I'm concerned about the 27" depth being inconvenient for him. Any help is apppreciated.

I am reading these posts with great interest as we moved into a house in September that has an island with Jenn-Air 4 burner gas cooktop and downdraft vent. We've always had electric but wanted gas in an island with an open floor plan so I could interact with our guests while cooking. The Jenn-Air system has many drawbacks. 1. I want/need 6 burners 2. Only one larger burner, two medium and one tiny. 3. Fan is LOUD on high and ineffective, even on high. 4. Fan IS EFFECTIVE at drawing the gas flame away from the pots/pans, thus greatly increasing cooking time. I want to replace this with a 6 burner gas cooktop that has enough space between the burners to use a couple of 12" saute pans plus a couple of 6-16qt pots and a couple of smaller pots. Based on the discussion above and the fact that I installed an 800CFM Broan under cabinet hood that barely kept up with the fumes in the old house, I think I'll want a 1200 or 1600 CFM blower (mounted in the attic to reduce noise in the kitchen). Problem is the master bath and walk-in closet is above the kitchen so I will have to shoehorn the ducting in the walk-in closet. I assume the extra run will eat some of the CFM. Does anyone have recommendations for a cooktop and vent/blower for this application, or links to sites with good product selection and design planning info? What about so-called "stacked" burners that are supposed to allow low simmering without compromising high output? If this post belongs in another category please let me know. Do you think I should go with the 48" wide x 27" deep hood over the 36" range? That run of cabinets has a 24" wall oven tower on the right and the range to the left of center so the prep island is not so much a barrier island. I can control the length of the run by changing the opening from the kitchen to the keeping room. The plans have it as 12' into a 13.5' room. When I played around with it, I reduced the opening to 11' and the range fit nicely with a 42" hood. The cabinet maker reduced it even more by the way he shifted the range down while maintaining a 48" hood. I don't know if he realized it, but he shut the opening down to 8'-8" which is unsatisfactory. That is the one place in the house that we want a really open feeling. I'll work on it over the weekend & post a layout and some renderings. I did a quick look online & really like this corbel style if I could get it in the right proportions:

trove: My Miele odor comment was intended as a zinger directed at Miele due to various complaints on this forum about dishwasher odor (probably not confined just to Miele). Some who have looked into this in depth have recently blamed it on humidity acting on microscopic food particles not flushed by the dishwashing process, and on dirty liquid in the dishwasher plumbing left over after operation. I know I have had odor problems at times with my Optima, but due to onset of winter have to wait until summer to try to verify whether either cause of blame is consistent with my observations. Miele has to conform to European laws relating to energy efficiency, and this also affects water usage. It may be that old style American dishwashers remained more sanitary in humid conditions after their drying cycle. I don't recall odor from childhood dishwashers, but I think my family's dishwasher was run more often than my Miele. kas
