Walk-In Shower: Good idea?
Comments (8)We love our 'tub sized' doorless shower as well, although we pushed the wall out several inches beyond where the original alcove tub had been and ended up with a 59' x 52' shower. The extra space isn't necessary to shower but it helps keep the water contained, although we used Schluter Kerdi and Ditra throughout the bathroom to resist any water damage. Our shower is plumbed completely different than yours - the shower head is on the same end as the entry. If you don't want to install a showerhead in the ceiling and you're worried about water spraying toward the entry, one alternative is Grohe's Freehander. It sprays straight down or sideways and is very versatile. We actually replaced a brand new Grohe shower head (which was also great) with one of these and love it. It gives you a lot of options without installing separate fixtures and extra plumbing. For some reason this site isn't allowing me to post a link today but you can go to http://www.freehander.net/ to take a look. In any case, we love our doorless shower and highly recommend installing one. Good luck!...See MoreBest flooring for dog who doesn't 'hold it'
Comments (33)I've researched A LOT on this and found that Cork is the way to go but you must be careful that it comes from Portugal. Anywhere else is likely to be mixed with something and you want 100%. Cork is naturally water repellent, antimicrobial, resistant to mold and mildew. It is a little pricey but well worth it. A bonus is it is bug repellent and great for those with allergies. Unfortunately, there is no sealant so far that resists ammonia which is the main component of pet urine. Waterproof only means water, we are dealing with a chemical here. That being said, while not resistant to it cork holds up best to the ammonia, meaning you still have to thoroughly clean that spot with the proper cleaner but not within 5 minutes of the dog peeing. Less wiggle room with waterproof sealants but cheaper. Definitely want to go for vinyl or tile if looking for the cheapest route and no floating floors or sticky floors use grout and seal it well and stay on top of cleaning. Again make sure you use the appropriate cleaners. BTW I have 3 Chihuahua's one who is an inbred so had some incontinent issues and another who was diagnosed with diabetes so also has some issues with incontinence it was just suggested to me to try a belly band so I am going to look into that. I hope I was of some help. Good luck....See MoreFlooring that doesn't mimic stone or wood.
Comments (24)I really love the Fabrique line. I wanted to use it for my backsplash, but it wouldn't work with the larger tiles and as far as I know, they don't make smaller tiles for backsplashes. The bathroom at my physician's office has the Fabrique tile in a sage green color with dark charcoal grey cabinetry and stalls. It is really nice!...See MoreTub/Shower Combo Under Window - A good idea?
Comments (7)Moving bearing walls can be easy and difficult. It can be expensive especially with getting an engineer and permits. Installiing a window in a wet area needs some special attention. It needs to be flashed or proofed in some way and not relying on a caulk joint. The window can be pulled in flush with wall substrate Or recessed . The sill / stool area should be tipped slightly to drain water to the inside. You are essentially waterproofing the window like you would on the outside when doing a nail fin new construction window so all water that leaks gets channels to the outside of the waterproof membrane and channels into the tub....See Moremaddie260
