Woven wooden shades would add a really nice texture to your room. You're right, I have a pair of double hung windows behind my tub. I've just ordered cordless cellular shades that will be 2 on 1 headrail and have the top down/bottom up feature for privacy and a view of the trees outside. I literally have to climb in my tub to adjust the windows or shades so they probably won't be moved very often. I'm planning to accent with purple so I'm hoping to find fabric for a valance to tie it all together and bring a softer texture into the room. You must be so anxious to be in your new home. I've never built a house before but I'm sure it would be both exciting and overwhelming.

worldmom, we also are struggling with the same issues---daughter with light sensitivity due to a vision disability and, in our case, a west facing kitchen window. So far we think our choices may be a patterned sheer curtain (so it can be easily taken down and washed) or a solar shade that can be wiped clean as needed. In the past I've had 2" blinds over the kitchen window and also matchstick blinds. The 2" blinds, although great for light control were hard to clean and did show every splash. The matchstick blinds always looked great but weren't so great for light control as they still left blinding light in through the thin spaces. Good luck with your decision and I'd love to see what you decide. At the moment we're thinking of just getting a plain old cheap roller shade to pull down when the sun is a it's worst and hope that someone will invent a better solution.

I just put up some bamboo shades to add texture to a living room window and to hide the roller shade behind. I have a bamboo shade with a liner in a different room, and it's really annoying. The liner is fabric and the same manufacturer of the shade, but it always looks messy and misaligned. I also made a faux roman shade for my kitchen and just left the roller blind behind it. So I'm a fan of that option.

All lining is privacy lining. I only know blackout to leave peep holes. Never saw it happen on other linings, but not sure what lining they used. Privacy doesn't tell me what kind of lining it is. Linings can be sewn on instead of put on with hooks. Perhaps that's what you should be asking for. As for the wood material, there's several to choose from. I think a trip to the store may be worth it so you can actually see it in person with a lining behind it, to make sure no holes are showing.
