That would be to thin and your concrete would crack. 3.5" would be a minimum.

houseful- Nice pool and decking, what kind of finish does your deck have? and is it natural or colored concrete? Thanks, we are having our pool done soon and trying to decide what kind of finish to get on our deck.

love2weed- sounds like you are stressed and frustrated, and building a pool can certainly do that to you!! I wanted concrete like mkfmedic (that looks fantastic, by the way!!) but our builder wouldn't do it, telling me it would not look good around our pool. I had pictures of what I wanted - they had issues visualizing, and probably wanted to make more money . . .Now we have a cast stone product which is super because in 100 degree Texas heat, it is not the least bit hot. However, our contractor is gone and won't make the problems that remain right. What are we to do? We can't match the stuff without him. I say this to say to you - go with something easy and that you and your hubby can agree on. You probably don't want solid concrete around the pool or else any settling will cause you major problems down the road. If they put the saw-cut lines in, or lay the coping and decking with a division between, not only will it add design but will be sturdier. A lot can be done with concrete - pass it on to your other half. Simple is good :)

I took some pictures of the coping areas in question and have posted them below. Gosh, it took me forever to figure out how to post again... thanks to some instructions I found in an old post.... I finally have it figured out. Anyway, do you think I am overreacting about this, also, does anyone know if this can be corrected on the surface? First couple of pictures show the one area that is the worst in my opinion and it is right at the shallow end where the steps are. The last couple of pictures are at the deep end, and although I notice it, it doesn't seem to be as pronounced. Can you see the little racoon foot prints? I think I had a visitor the other night. Hope he doesn't decide to go swimming anytime soon.... the water looks like a swamp at the moment... They started forming the deck today (I was at work and my husband had them stop because there have been additional trenches dug by the plumber and by the electricians, and with all of the rain, we want to pool guy to re-grade it. Besides, the paint marks had washed off, and when I came home from lunch, there was one area that was formed incorrectly. I am meeting both the concrete guy and the builder here in the morning to walk back through the deck pour & of course, I will show the builder the coping to see what he says.
