OK if you're bound and determined :oP Here's what "I" would do if I felt I had to paint them. First, go down to either a reuse shop or home despot and purchase a very very very cheap faucet set from their discount bin in a very shiny silver finish (you're testing finish not color so don't worry about that). Now head to an automotive paint store, not a regular paint store, but someone who sells automotive quality spray paint. Talk to them about a primer in a spray option and purchase one or two options to try. Practice wonderful tape off abilities around difficult curves and see how well you can do it, mimicking what you have to do on your own set. Spray with the primer...and let me warn you...spray several times in very thin coats, letting each coat set up fully before you apply more. You DON'T want drips on metal!!! You'd have to sand and start again, which sucks (don't ask why I know that). Now you need to head to Michaels (ok you could do that on the way from your other purchase) and pick out a couple different metal paints in a bronze/antique bronze or ORB finish. The daub on finishes won't work...they're not tough enough for the use you are contemplating. Test until you find one that's a good compliment for your other pieces (remembering that they're not right up against each other!) and spray on your primer. Let it sit for whatever suggested...probably at least 48 hours and then apply a finish coat in a very shiny finish, again a metal appropriate finish please. Test the finish coat (clear) on your paint and primer coats on a piece of plastic so you can see if they're compatible...some are not. WHen you have a finished sample product with all coats on them...let that sit a few days.... Now dip it in water. Scratch it with your fingernails, rub a scrub brush over it.... How's it turning out????? This will tell you if you should try the same technique on your high cost items. I actually did this for our step up into the bathtub. No steps (fold up) come with a ORB finish so I had to paint the finish (gold) to a bronze color. Mine won't see much touching though, which made it easier, and won't get dirty enough to need much more than a wipe. How did they turn out...they actually look quite nice. I'll be at the house this weekend working. Just to save you a step...I'll see what I used for the bronze color that worked best with the ORB in the room and post that brand for you to try. That metal darkening liquid is too hard to control and you'll ruin your other finishes on the pieces...dont' touch it!

Dilly, Sunlight Yellow seems like a very probable name for what I have. Not bad per se, but tricky to work around. I wonder what original bath schemes it fit with? Mine has paneling below the chair rail (no tile anywhere), so I caulked the seams and painted it white. Do you think a softer neutral shade on the walls would work better than stark white? I know you mentioned the bisque sink. The faucets definitely need replacing; they are extremely hard to pull up to get the water on. I do like that just one handle is needed to get the water temp and flow just right. I like the look of two handles, but single seemed more practical, like happyladi said. It sounds like you've found them (even new ones) to be less reliable? Justgotabme, I like your idea. I think I've seen a display in an antique store very similar to show the bed set up but not take up much room. Did you mean to say use the footboard as the front of the crib instead of the sides? The bed I saw basically had custom made very short rails connecting the head and foot boards, so I can see how that would look like a toddler daybed. But if you have a different plan for the footboard as the sides, maybe I'm not picturing the right thing. Thanks for the chandi complements. I hung it a few months ago, after buying it off eBay. I really like the smoked glass column, but a few posters commented that it looked too sterile, like something for a breakfast nook not a bedroom. It's a bit low hanging, as justgotebme mentioned, but I have a tufted bench at the foot of the bed that it hangs above, so it's not really over the walkway. I'm just not sure about the overall look, so I'm considering changing the glass shades to soften it a bit.

Place I'm staying during my remodel has polished brass. I notice it every time I walk in. And not in a good way. Even though it may be trendy now (this stuff went in a long time ago), it's still not common and stands out. I guess I don't want my hardware to stand out that much. The finish is also deteriorating. Ick. My alternative to chrome, which is just too bright for me, is polished nickel. It has a little color to it and is (to me) classic. And Cal Faucets has a PVD polished nickel which has a lifetime guarantee. As I understand it, polished nickel is fairly easy to match. All the faucets are coming from Cal Faucets but the bath drain hardware will come from Kohler. I'm comfortable that any difference won't bug me (I'm somewhere in the middle of pickiness on this: more than some, less than others.) I'm using oil rubbed bronze for my door hardware but polished nickel for all my plumbing hardware.

I have a copper sink and got a copper drain. When I bought it, I realized that many "copper" drains are not solid copper and so I found one that was solid copper. It wasn't cheap but I don't expect to replace the sink or the drain in my lifetime so it was worth it. Not quite the same thing but I have oiled rubbed fixtures in my bathroom and I found an oiled rubbed shower drain from Designer Drains so that I wouldn't have the discordant chrome standard drain. I am similarly having the chrome toilet levers replaced with oiled rubbed bronze levers. I don't know what color "gold" is - I am assuming it is brass and I would imagine there are solid brass drains as well. The only issue is that solid brass will develop a patina which and I certainly wouldn't want a coating on my drain to keep the finish shiny. My copper sink has a living finish so the uncoated copper drain just fits in with the rest of the sink.
