Need help on exterior colors for board batten and brick
I have hired a painter and he disagrees with my paint choices and I am second guessing myself. I could really use some advice on color for the board batten part of the house and trim colors. I had chosen SW Iron ore for the boards and was going with some shade of white for the trim work. He says the Iron Ore will be too dark. The brick is multi color. I am sorry the picture is not that good. There is a lot of shade and house faces west. House built in 1968. I need help please. I didn't mention it but the roof is gray. I appreciate so much the responses so far. I have updated the pictures.

The siding is Hardiboard, pre painted, in Mountain Sage, trim is Hardie Sailcloth and the windows are Eagle, in Cinnamon. Comments (2)Hi Daniel, you have a very beautiful home and I'm certain that when you're finished it will be fabulous. You are correct, it would have been better to not trim the 10' siding and then just transition the stone to the ground. That said, you've already cited the best 2 options. Take off the 10" horizontal board and start your stone there or leave the 10" board in place and install stone accordingly. You might consider using a medium to darker color of stone to move your eye lower when viewing your home. Do not highlight the horizontal board with a different siding color. Comments (15)My opinions only. OP, it's a little difficult to know what you mean by making the siding more modern. But to answer your specific questions: 1) Should I alternate siding materials? No. IMO alternating siding material can be done well but for the most part is poorly executed. From what I have seen it becomes a jumble of materials that detracts from the house. 2) Should we incorporate stone? No. Board and batten siding is classic and timeless. Stone is a passing fad in its current application, especially now with it being added to places where it doesn't belong. Don't get me wrong, stone can be appropriate and also classic, but not the way it is thrown about now on the exterior as some sort of stick on applique. Scroll through houzz's images to see which contemporary board and batten home appeals to you. Here is one in white that is contemporary. last yearHere's your entrance in Iron Ore with white trim and door. If you use a storm door, it should be the same colour as the front door. If your budget allows, you can update your front door, the porch railing to wood and update your sconces to larger newer style ones. You can paint the ciment porch and cover it and each step with stained wood planks.
Landscaping would also help for more curb appel.

last yearYour current color looks good with the brick. If it doesn't need repainting, then invest in other curb appeal features:
--new cement and brick steps using varieted bricks like the ones on your house
--cedar stained railing
--Remove shutters entirely
--Deeper garden beds with new foundation plantings and perennials that produce dark red leaves and flowers, but use reddish mulch. Great landscaping enhances and extends the look of a house.

last yearI would just darken and richen the color you have. Remove the shutters, replace the iron railings and upgrade the lanterns to 1/3 of the front door's height. I would change the style of both doors.
