Exterior Paint Colours for Board and Batten Lakeside Cottage
Comments (13)northernester, Here are a couple of pics of our house, sorry it took me so long to get a pic, this time of year, it's leave for work in the dark, return home in the dark. The siding is Hardiboard, pre painted, in Mountain Sage, trim is Hardie Sailcloth and the windows are Eagle, in Cinnamon. The pics aren't the greatest, sadly, it looks like mud season around here when it should look like a winter wonderland. Good luck with your decision, amd you have a lovely home, a 3 car garage in a waterfront home, that's great....See MoreBatten Board - Re-design help needed, two transitions is not working
Comments (2)Hi Daniel, you have a very beautiful home and I'm certain that when you're finished it will be fabulous. You are correct, it would have been better to not trim the 10' siding and then just transition the stone to the ground. That said, you've already cited the best 2 options. Take off the 10" horizontal board and start your stone there or leave the 10" board in place and install stone accordingly. You might consider using a medium to darker color of stone to move your eye lower when viewing your home. Do not highlight the horizontal board with a different siding color. Possibly paint your fascia a darker color as well. Wishing you the very best, Jerry Jerome DeMarco ART.chitecture...See MoreHelp with Exterior Siding. All Board and Batten????
Comments (15)My opinions only. OP, it's a little difficult to know what you mean by making the siding more modern. But to answer your specific questions: 1) Should I alternate siding materials? No. IMO alternating siding material can be done well but for the most part is poorly executed. From what I have seen it becomes a jumble of materials that detracts from the house. 2) Should we incorporate stone? No. Board and batten siding is classic and timeless. Stone is a passing fad in its current application, especially now with it being added to places where it doesn't belong. Don't get me wrong, stone can be appropriate and also classic, but not the way it is thrown about now on the exterior as some sort of stick on applique. Scroll through houzz's images to see which contemporary board and batten home appeals to you. Here is one in white that is contemporary. Naturally you would look for colors that you prefer (dark) rather than the white shown below. This is just to give you an idea of contemporary board and batten siding appearance....See MoreCan I use both board and batten with stucco for my exterior (cream)?
Comments (21)an architectural technologist ATs are licenced in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. (Perhaps elsewhere here. Haven't checked.) As per the Canadian Council of Technologists and Technicians, "Architectural technicians and technologists work independently or with professional architects and civil design engineers in conducting research, preparing drawings, architectural models, specifications and contracts and in supervising construction projects. Architectural technologists and technicians are employed by architectural and construction firms, and governments." As with architects, some are talented and creative, some not. I always find it interesting that some architectural technologists and non-licenced designers, such as Drake favourite Ferris Rafauli, employ architects. Presumably to get all the nitty-gritty Code stuff right....See Morelwoody
