Having trouble choosing the right Rug to go under the bed

Hi! I have a few questions, I hope you can help me🙏🏻
This is my master bedroom, I still have ways to go with the decor (art, sitting area furniture, etc) but what you see in the picture, is the style I’d love to give to this room. I’m planning to hang mirrors behind both nightstands but I’m having trouble choosing the right rug size and color to place under King size bed.
•Should I go with a 9x12 or 8x10? (rug will be placed under bed only, not under nightstands) or go with a bigger rug and place it under nightstands?
•Should I stick with light neutral colors or add a pop of color?

Beautiful space! I think the rug size depends on where the end of the rug lands in relation to the hallway. Probably the 9 x 12 option but I'd make sure when you walk out of the hallway, you walk both feet onto the rug, not one foot on hardwood and one foot on carpet.

Colour ... looks like you're going with neutrals and you can't go wrong really. Could get a rug in neutrals and soft colours if that's what you want too - any muted colour you like ... grey blue, aqua, clay, sage, ochre ... then repeat in the pillows and art. Please post when you're done!

First, something to think about: We are having a round table made and I initially wanted a smaller one with a leaf or two. My options were extremely limited (want a counter height for out room) and I thought I was going to order an Amish one when I found a local woodworker. He and his wife both said that if you want a pedastal, they would do everything they could to talk me out of extensions. They said they are great initially, but because of the weight and construcion of the table, they will always wind up having trouble. Now, he's building solid wood tables that should be around 100 years from now. If' you are buying something for the next 10 years, maybe you won't have any issues. Their advise was to go with the largest size round that fit the room and keep it stationary. That would allow you to have a rug that always fits too. No worries about storing leaves, changing finishes, etc. Are you going to have a buffet, server, china cabinet or other furniture in the room? The placement of other pieces could impact the size and shape of your rug. Search for photos of DRs with round tables. You basically have three choices -- no rug, fit the table with a round or square that is a minimum of 3-4 feet larger than the table (8-9 ft) or the rug essentially a room carpet. The size would then depend on whether you have other furniture in the room and how you want to define the space.

dust, cat puke, neck messager and heaven only know what else. It is very low to the floor so nothing big but I am forever losing bottles of eye drops and inhalers etc. I know they are bound to be under there. Our bed hasn't been moved in the 4 or so years that we have been in this house...It is massive and heavy beyond moving even a few feet. The bed itself is massive and we have a temper-pedic mattress and foundation. It just wouldn't move even if I was interested. Living with cancer has proved to me that a person can learn to live with a lot of dirt and dust when you have to do so.

Area rugs- size to go under king bed

I have a 10x13 under my king sized bed. Right now it's centered under the bed, but in a previous house, it was off center with a runner on the other side. I think it's a good size. There are a few feet of rug showing on either side of the bed and at the end. The "top" of the rug goes to just before the bedside tables, so the tables are sitting on the wood floor. To me it seems like just the right size. I think a 6x9 (or so) accent rug would also work well if you're just looking to put some color in the room.

You went about this project in reverse. Paint is the last step in a decorating job because it can be custom blended to work with fabrics (sofas, chairs) and textiles (rugs.) I would have bought the rug first and schlepped it (or a small version of it) around to the furniture stores to select the upholstered pieces. Once all chosen, the paint store would be my last stop. Since you didn't do that, see if the painter left a partial bucket of paint and get some foam core to paint a sample on. Same for the color on the FP brick. Grab a cushion from the sofa, a sample of your flooring (if you don't have you may get at the store it came from) and head to the rug shops. Take measurements of the room and of the sofa with you. The ideal area rug, IMO, will be lay 12-18" away from the FP hearth, will slip under the front 1/3 of the sofa, and will extend past the ends of it by a foot or so. You can tape that out on the floor with painter's tape to get the measurement. If your measurement is not a standard size rug, then go up one size. Let the rug specialists guide you in choosing something with a pattern to help break up the monotony of a beige/gray space.

Tmac mentioned traffic pattern at the foot of the bed so 6x9 or 9x12. The size depends on the size or the room and/or the bed area.

I agree neutrat for this room or with hints of soft color. You can't go wrong with an undyed hand woven wool rug.

Finding the right color will be tricky but I think there are blush rugs out there since it's the current trend. Order a small rug to check color first so you're not hauling huge rugs back and forth to the UPS or rug stores.

I’d go a bit dramatic, and bring in some warmth for a luxe feel. Something with charcoal and/or black in it. I love mixing a traditional rug with glam and sleek. It’s a more timeless look.

Anyway, unless you want a monochromatic look, you don’t have to stick with all gray rugs. I look at rugs as art on the floor. :)

Tape it out. You also have an angled fireplace that might restrict the size of your rug in the room.

@ptreckel is right. Painter’s tape saves you a lot of time and money ordering the wrong size.
