Art-full by the woodstove.

The photos on the left, 6 of a collection of 12 B&W photos I've taken over the years on the wall behind the wood stove.

A Tibetan cow bell, a to-scale carving of a Hawaiian akua.

A pencil sketch done by my cousin of the old house that was here, where DH and I (who lived next door) grew up, based on a photo taken by my FIL in 1965.

The beams are salvaged from the old house, dating back to 1790, hand hewn.

It wasn't until we turned on the light for the first time that we saw "the man in the mantel", an artifact from where the beam was mortised and pegged.

The copper plate from Mexico of the Mayan calendar.

The stonework carefully cut and crafted by a family friend and his son who are masons.

Here's a photo of a corner in my living room in L.A. No fireplace in this house.

Photos shows two African masks, Kuba cloth from central Africa, a primitive style vase from Honduras that contains a Bavarian walking cane and two African fishing spears, a black Quezada vase made in northern Mexico, a bluish vase made by a friend in San Francisco that has peacock feathers, and a Zapotec tapestry that I bought in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca.

@dimac83....They seem to be naturally well formed. I turn it about once every two years, as it leans towards the window/sun. It loses leaves as it ages, exposing the thickened, trunk like stems. I had another BIG one...and I tried lifting it off it's perch....and it broke into about 10 small pieces....so i just stuck a few stems in the dirt...and started over. They ALL end up being well formed....if they're happy.

Annie it is a good hobby. It helps keep my hands and fingers moving, they are beginning to lock up on me. It's not very expensive and it's pretty. I am currently do actual painting sizes to frame. The kits make good gifts.

I was intrigued by the 17 busts known as The Emperor Heads outside the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, England. Despite their name, they do not represent anyone in particular (per Wikipedia). They all have a startled look.

I took this photo of a freestanding sculpture of David in Florence, and was fortunate to see the original statue in the Accademia Gallery. I had seen photographs thousands of times, but it was so different to walk around and see this majestic sculpture in person at the Gallery. We had a wonderful museum guide who enhanced our experience.
