Time to start seeds; can I see your set-up?
Comments (2)You'll find the answers to all these questions well-covered in the FAQs over on the Growing from Seed forum here. There are also lots of discussions with pictures of the various set-ups used, which ones to avoid using, the problems with using peat pots, the problems with using peat pellets, and the problems covers can cause when used incorrectly, damp-off, transplanting to larger containers once germinated, how to use soil heating pads and various types of growing lights needed, etc. Dave Here is a link that might be useful: Growing from Seed forum...See MoreLet's See Your Winter Storm Pictures
Comments (14)About 40 miles north of mtnrdredux, we had just snow. I was sad to see my birch out back look like this - A bit to the right - And while I was making the dinner for my friend Jimmy to take to his father and grandmother 2.5 hours north, he was snow blowing paths and the driveway for me. Thank-you, Jimmy! He also gently knocked the snow off the birch for me, and it bounced back, but I lost a Japanese Maple planted this fall....See MoreCan I see your winter setup?
Comments (97)Hi all, I'd be curious to any new tips anyone has learned over the years. I just re-read this threat and it's full of useful information. A few questions: 1. Regarding fans/circulation, does everyone have the fan mostly blowing directly on their shelves. Consistently or intermittently (side to side moving fan)? Other than affecting leaf temperature and promoting growth, does it worsen vs help pests such as scale or mites? 2. Ewwmayo, how do you secure your sunblaster lights onto the wood strips? I'm still using the sunblaster plastic things that you buy separately to secure multiple light fixtures together, but they are really flimsy, and it is difficult for the lights to fit in them. Thanks...See Morelet’s see your landscape!
Comments (4)We are in the PNW and growing hydrangeas is not difficult due to the rain, moderate temps and angle of the sun. Zone 7 - 8 is perfect and fossils of hydrangeas are quite common - so they have been growing here for millions of years. Most of the following photos were taken the last few days - so they are going dormant. You will also see many small pots and plants that will be sold at our garden club plant sale in May. My style of landscape is 'the one with the least amount of soil....wins' lol It is also called layering, and possible because we don't have to protect in winter, or worry about mildew - so we can grow them very close together. Anyway - that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Back garden, Asperas, Lady in Red, Pia, and Nikko Blue in back - planted to hide fence. Aspera, Serrata - Beni Gaku, Oakleaf, new serratas still in pots. Other side of garden, Aspera, Mac. Kluis Superba, New Serratas Miss Saori and two Kiyosumi Along the driveway, raised and shaded under vine maples Hydrangeas and hardy fuchsias are great companions....See Moreponcirusguy6b452xx
