9" vs. 12" drawer base cabinet, sink base size and 4.5" space
Comments (18)Thanks for the headsup, angela12345. I measured the GD and went to HD to measure the interior dimension of a 30" sink base cabinet. My oh my, a 30" sink base is TINY! But, it will have to do for now. The 33" sink base has more space inside and I wish we could put it in our layout without my being so bothered. Sigh. Alas, I really can't stand how the spacing of the sink base is uneven in relation to the already lopsided window on the wall. It makes me feel I am living in the winchester mystery house! So far, I have ascertained that it can hold our trash, recycle bin and compost pail, with a smidge of room left for fire extinguisher. Definitely no room for insta-hot water heater and filter. So, we nix that from our wish list. I am looking for a single bowl undermount. After some online research, I found a kindred sink KCUS30A-10/10BG that I like but I don't know if it's available online or not. I wish I could use the ticor sink but the one I like needs a 33" sink base. Bummer. The kindred sink I am interested in will have interior dimension of 27"W x 16"L x 10"H. I think that will work beautifully for washing my long-handled pans. Here's the specs: http://www.kindred-sinkware.com/grfx/products/specs/KCUS30A_10-10BG.pdf. Hope Kindred is a good product....See MoreSpice Storage
Comments (12)I would love to have them in a drawer but not sure how. I've seen the slanted dividers for displaying them in drawers, but I know that not all of the bottles shapes would fit that design. I've thought about changing out all the bottles to a standard size and using a label maker to mark the tops so that I can put them all standing upright in a drawer - just not sure if that's worth the effort. That is pretty much what I did, and it was definately worth the effort. I designed some drawers that were high enough for the bottles I wanted to store, including some half pint canning jars that I use for bay leaves and that sort of thing. Here's a thread started in 2008 about storing large collections of spices. Lots of good ideas. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg02124116986.html Cj...See MoreSpice Storage: Where & How
Comments (69)You know, given that I've got so little storage, there's stuff in the kitchen that probably technically doesn't belong there... Remember before kitchen rehab when all placemats, tablecloths & cloth napkins were stored in the living room because there was no room in the kitchen? I have a drawer in the LR hutch with transit tokens, pens, tape, calculator, etc. and the kitchen junk drawer w/ some of that stuff: shopping list paper, pen, scissors, tape measure... one drawer is not enough... so......See MoreDrawers for cookware & dishes, which should be bigger?
Comments (30)Oh interesting! I kind of like that they pull-out separately better than one large one anyway. I think I am leaning away from the pull-outs, just because I actually don't like the idea of having to bend down to find spices/canned goods. Guess I'm getting older, lol. However, I'm messing around with the drawers in the current kitchen and decided that I do not want to keep cans in drawers! Haha. I've been trying to hold DH off on committing to having upper cabinets as with the fridge and pantry we really only have room for a couple and I kind of like the idea of nothing just to make the kitchen feel more open and to maybe brighten it up by doing the whole upper wall in reflective tile. I'm cramming a lot into the footprint so that is desirable to me. Originally I'd wanted to do white cabinets to help with that, but when DH decided to do it himself I changed to natural wood because I don't trust the longevity of a DIY paint finish and we plan this to be our forever home (or at least until our kids graduate home, which is quite a ways out.) However, he seems so determined to do them, and to do them all the way to our nearly 10ft ceiling so I should probably just resign myself to having them and keep the canned goods in the little 12" cabinet to the top left of the range. I like canned goods on shelves, you can stack liked kinds together and see them easily. I'm investigating spices in drawers right now, to see if it's workable without having to do all the matching spice jars, I like the idea but know it's not happening at this point in my life....See MoreFori
