The back of the house does not look like a colonial at all 😂

Again, part of that is my fault for completely changing the kitchen + adding hearth area to it. I just had my existing deck ripped out and replaced with a new patio + fire pit. Part of the patio is being covered (people are outside finishing work on it while I’m typing this):

This area is being covered:

The heaters in photo above are gone - installing radiant heaters on ceiling instead.

The window (w white storm on it) is being replaced + the white door (being changed to full glass like the door that is located in the kitchen:

(the angled area of double stacked windows is where the kitchen table is located). All windows coverings are being replaced.

Here is what it looks like with covered patio (just not quite finished) + additonal landscaping will be added in front of that area between new retaining walls.

Gas grill is only temporarily located next to house - everything has been moved while construction has been happening the past several days (I don’t want anyone to think that I actually use/store my grill right next to my house!)

Huh. Just saw your new photos. Why did you add Craftsman detailing to the rear of the house when you have a Colonial?

I’ve been thinking about a ”white” or lighter color. Not a stark white - bc the sun might make it too bright/blinding?

This one was recently changed by removing shutter and replacing white windows with black. I am thinking about changing windows - and have thought about black ones. However However, while I love black windows - the windows on this house now look like black holes to me:

@Sabrina Alfin Interiors - Well, that wasn’t my choice - it was my SO’s decision. We are basically renovating my entire house (he’s moving in with me) - and I basically have free reign to do whatever I want on the inside. So, I let him coordinate the back side. Seemed lime a good trade at the time.

i wasnt theilled when I saw the drawings/plans for the covered patio area. I discussed it with him - and since the back of the house already didn’t really represent a ”colonial” style style, I gave in to him. It just wasn’t worth arguing over.

I figured that I could change the detailing by roofline + paint cedar in furture if I decided to without spending a lot of $$.

This way I get the kitchen of my dreams!

@Sabrina Alfin Interiors - We also don’t back up to neighbors - and the back of house really can’t be seen by anyone - and I REALLY want my kitchen!!

Wondering if I should remove the shutters on my house? My plan is to replace them with nicer ones that are hung correctly (not against the siding) - but now I’m wondering if I should just leave them off?

leave the shutters, leave the windows, with a brown roof lean into the sage family

I just dont seem to see the problem with the current color. I think the alternative with your roof color might be in the blue family
