Refrigerator works but compressor extremely hot??

Chris
last year

Hi,

Is it ok for refrigerator compressors to be extremely hot? I’ve searched all over the internet and couldn’t really find a good answer. Everything I read usually involves the refrigerator not working. My main refrigerator is a 5 year old Samsung that works great but when I went to clean the back I noticed the compressor was scalding hot. I can’t put a finger on it for longer than 1 second. The compressor fan is working, I cleaned out the condenser coils also and put an extra fan on the compressor but 3 days later and it’s still scalding hot. My next step is to turn it off for 24 hours. Then I went and got my old mini fridge to store my food temporarily and I touched the compressor on that and it was exactly the same scalding hot. It works though. Then I touched the compressor on my stand alone freezer box I bought 6 months ago and it was also scalding hot. I’m confused now since everything I read says that compressors should be warm but not hot to the touch. Thanks for input.
