I was just at expo today and saw the subzero and the Liebherr 48" fridges. The subzero was almost $13 and the Liebherr was almost $8. i actually prefered the Liebherr over the Sub but mostly for asthetic reasons(and some functional). The sub had space for large items in the freezer while the Liebherr had drawers which would make it hard for me to store my extra turkey at Christmas time. I liked the top of the Liebherr for the beverages on the right side and the way the rest of the fridge storage space was set up. The door hinges are also really nice and the door wasn't as heavy. I liked the freezer better on the sub and the fridge better on the Leib, I guess. Didn't like expo at all. Salesman knew squat....had to go the the computer to answer any ?'s and gave wrong info when he did answer on his own. Go figure?

Much longer than any other fridge we've ever had LOL And that comes after the units the Miele's replaced... brand spanking new never before used GE Monogram top of the line all fridge and freezer units THAT HAD MOLD GROWING in the drip pan RIGHT NEXT TO THE VEGGIE DRAW within one year of purchase. Seriously though, we used to throw out so much and now find it lasts way longer. We have one drawer for veggies and another just for fruit. We eat so much that we are eating everything before it goes bad and only shopping once a week or every 10 days for fresh fruit and veggies. I used to shop at least once and sometimes twice weekly with the old fridges both the one original to the house and then with the GE one in our new remodel too. It took me a while to track down the mold growth and when GE wouldn't fix it, the fridge had to go. I also plan meals to use the most perishable stuff (soft fruits and veggies first) first and the hardier stuff later in the week, a habit I needed to develop with our old fridge (before we even began the remodel). With the Miele I have come across veggies dh had purchased up to two weeks previously and they are still fine.

The Pro48 is an awesome piece of equipment. It is unlikely though to be any significant amount more reliable than a standard BI48. So take that part out. The other item that I have had customers miss is the lack of door bins. Doesn't seem like a huge deal to me personally...but I have had customers who were either dissuaded from purchasing or had regrets after purchase. As for other options, IMHO if service is good in your area (if you are in NY I am not surprised, we are pretty blessed with people on that front) than I don't think any of the other BI 48" units really compare. Also bear in mind that JennAir, Kitchenaid, Thermador (only the 42/48" units) and Dacor all are made by kitchenaid. The other 3 out there are GE Monogram (which is ok, but not a SZ), Samsung (yikes) and Viking (just google Viking refrigerators and your head will likely explode...). So my personal advice is to get the BI48...but the Pro48 is a magnificent piece and if you go into it understanding you are not buying additional reliability, just a statement piece, then go for that.

I came across this question as I was looking for ideas to compartmentalize the drawers of the PRO48 for better storage. We replaced our 632 and really couldn't be happier. It's been a year since we bought it and it is beautiful. Can you consider a refrigerator a piece of art? I think so. We had concerns about no longer having storage in the door too, but we have gotten used to being without. We ended up reconfiguring the shelves and stainless bins to work better. I would suggest keeping the top shelf as high as it can go in order to fit things like eggs, butter, salsa, grey poupon, wine bottles laid down. The next shelf with just enough space for other taller items/condiments, like dressings, ketchup, etc.. Then leave quite a bit of space for the remaining shelf so that you can easily fit upright wine bottles, milks, juices. Under that shelf, place the 2 stainless bins next to one another and directly under those bins, yogurts and soda cans will fit nicely. Took a bit of trial and error, but it seems to be the best layout for us. The freezer can fit a ton of things. Sometimes I am afraid something will fall behind the drawer when it's opened, but so far that hasn't happened. The only thing I am trying to figure out is some sort of storage solution for the bottom refrigerated drawer. Other than that, it's perfect.
