Sub Zero Pro 48 Refrigerator

Has anyone seen this sub zero frig in person? Although I'm sure it's out of my price range, I would love to be able to get a more 'commercial' looking refrigerator without getting a commercial frig. I would like to have it as freestanding instead of built in. Liebherr makes one that resembles this as well, but the freezer capacity is a lot smaller. This is my inspiration.

I have seen one at our local appliance store. I live in Canada and know that our prices are higher than in the US. It is a thing of beauty and if I had the right size kitchen and the money, I would have to evaluate it hard against the Liebherr which was also at the store.....

Unfortunately at the $20K price tag that I seem to remember, it was well and truly out of my range.....seems I will have to stick with my Thermador French Door Built in....

Wow!!!! $20K for a refrigerator, even at Canadian pricing that's crazy. The Liebherr 48" freestanding that "resembles" it I think I saw for a price of $5500. Makes that look like a bargain.

The Pro 48 seems cool, and I think it has popularity from that point of view, but I think it doesn't sell that well because it's a very specific look, and very expensive. It is free-standing, I believe, which is a plus for some, but I think most SZ devotees prefer built-in/integrated/panelled. I think the organization of the unit is interesting if it fits your lifestyle. I have the Miele 30" all fridge with the 30" freezer. I love them. For me, it was a matter of not being able to put together a combination of SZ units that would fit well, look good and serve my needs well. I didn't like the BSH columns, but when their Miele second cousin came into the showrooms I knew it was the answer. I love my coolers! The drawers are particularly useful. I can put a full sized filled platter in one. For daily use, I put meats in the bottom one and produce (fruit + veg settings) in the other. The deli drawer is a dream for flat packages. I put the butter box lower down, and use the top of it as a shelf; they show it at the top because in old style fridges that was the warmest part of the fridge (heat rises), but with the cold air vent at the top that's not really true anymore and it's more useful lower down. The lighting is amazing. I miss it when I'm looking for things in other people's SZ's. I rarely move the shelves because I've found an arrangement that works just right for me, but they move really easily, even with a few things on them. Negatives: The latches for the drawers are a little too plasticky and can be off when you put the drawers back. After you fix the seating, they tend to squeak for awhile. If you're into big bottles and jugs, you'll have to devote shelf space to them. I don't do jugs, so I really didn't want door shelf space for them. I do use a door shelf for half gallon refillable water bottles, in the rectangular shape of old fashioned milk bottles. Those fit fine. :) Freezer: The icemaker makes pillbug shaped ice. I like it better than long crescents. In the 30" the drawers have plastic dividers. I find them more useful than not, but they're occasionally annoying. I could fit more without them, but they make organization easier. Same issue with the squeaking if you get the drawer off kilter. The supercool is super.

I would point out that functionally there are 3 electric ovens. A better option may be to get the all gas range with an electric wall oven to have some variety. The gas ovens aren't self clean, but may be preferable in certain applications, depending how you cook. As far as refrigeration, you could get the 700bc combo unit to add freezer space if that were a problem. I personally find the pro48 fine in the freezer department. It has significantly more capacity than the 632 (11.7 v. 9.9 cu. ft.). You didn't mention dishwashers, but I would probably get 2 in your case if the volume of prep dishes and dinnerware is at all represented by the amount of food storage/cooking space you have. Maybe a Miele and a set of Dishdrawers would be good.

Kenmore Pro or SubZero Built-in 48

I am looking to get a 48" built-in SBS refrigerator/freezer with a door dispenser (little kids serve themselves). It looks as though there is a Kenmore Pro model that has the duo compressor/duo coil setup as does the SubZero. Anyone know about these or have recommendations? I looked at the Miele, but it's over $10K and mainly the benefit seems to be the ability to not keep them SBS, which we will do anyway. GE Profile has a duo coil option with a single compressor...as useful? I'd love advice on this purchase. Thanks!

I came across this question as I was looking for ideas to compartmentalize the drawers of the PRO48 for better storage. We replaced our 632 and really couldn't be happier. It's been a year since we bought it and it is beautiful. Can you consider a refrigerator a piece of art? I think so. We had concerns about no longer having storage in the door too, but we have gotten used to being without. We ended up reconfiguring the shelves and stainless bins to work better. I would suggest keeping the top shelf as high as it can go in order to fit things like eggs, butter, salsa, grey poupon, wine bottles laid down. The next shelf with just enough space for other taller items/condiments, like dressings, ketchup, etc.. Then leave quite a bit of space for the remaining shelf so that you can easily fit upright wine bottles, milks, juices. Under that shelf, place the 2 stainless bins next to one another and directly under those bins, yogurts and soda cans will fit nicely. Took a bit of trial and error, but it seems to be the best layout for us. The freezer can fit a ton of things. Sometimes I am afraid something will fall behind the drawer when it's opened, but so far that hasn't happened. The only thing I am trying to figure out is some sort of storage solution for the bottom refrigerated drawer. Other than that, it's perfect.

I've played with one a few times. Very commercial in feel and weight. If you have a weak or spongy floor you'll notice. Price is around 13k USD last time I looked.

I was just at expo today and saw the subzero and the Liebherr 48" fridges. The subzero was almost $13 and the Liebherr was almost $8. i actually prefered the Liebherr over the Sub but mostly for asthetic reasons(and some functional). The sub had space for large items in the freezer while the Liebherr had drawers which would make it hard for me to store my extra turkey at Christmas time. I liked the top of the Liebherr for the beverages on the right side and the way the rest of the fridge storage space was set up. The door hinges are also really nice and the door wasn't as heavy. I liked the freezer better on the sub and the fridge better on the Leib, I guess. Didn't like expo at all. Salesman knew squat....had to go the the computer to answer any ?'s and gave wrong info when he did answer on his own. Go figure?

I saw the three zone fridge. The salesman told me they had a model with no glass in the door, but I liked the beverage section with the glass on the door. More expensive though.

We looked at the same fridges, plus the Thermador and others and decided on the Leibherr. Actually I found myself wanting more fridge/less freezer space because I don't want to keep finding relics in the freezer. I hope I made the right choice and I HOPE I get it installed soon.

Footballmom - the one you saw is a built-in. I guess that's the reason for the higher price.

ctkathy - are you going to have cabinetry around this or are you using it as a freestanding frig? Where did you get yours from? I live in NJ.
