Furniture Layout - help please!

We recently moved & I can’t figure out how to arrange the furniture set. I know a set of 3, matchy couches isn’t ideal, but we’re going to keep them for the time being.

As you can see, the room is fairly long with 3 windows I’d prefer to leave as open as possible. Because we just moved in & are still in the middle of construction, there are no decorations up.

Help with furniture arrangement is very much appreciated!

You're losing a lot of space on the far end of the room by placing the chair and china cabinet at an angle. Move the china cabinet to the wall where the wrapped pieces are now leaning, center the chair to the far window, push the seating and rug toward it and add a coffee table in the middle. I hope the room is wide enough to accommodate the sofa and loveseat in this "L" shape configuration.

A lot depends on who is using the room and what they are doing in it. Is this for a couple with no children, a family with lots of little ones, or a family with a couple of teenagers? Will the room be using for entertaining, or tv watching or arts & crafts or chair forts? How many people will you need to seat on a regular day? Do you have a tv and game system that the room needs to accommodate? Do you need storage of any kind--books, craft supplies, DVDs, general overflow storage? A charging station for electronics? Will people be eating snacks and therefore need places to put cups and plates? Will people be playing board or card games, so maybe a table and chairs would be useful? How do you see the function of this room as different from the function of the formal living room at the top of the floor plan? That's a lot of questions, I know, but until you can answer most of them, you really don't know what kinds of furniture you will need. You should determine that first, and then where to put them all.

The sectional looks better than others. I advise you to make it like this. Moreover, for your room, you can take vintage furniture. It will make your room richer. When I moved to my new house a year ago, I noticed that something was not reaching the living room. After a time, I decided to change the furniture and I opted for a vintage one. After changes, the living room looks better, more colorful and this type of furniture gives unusual magic to the room. Nice and large room! IMO, you are trying ot squeeze too many chairs into the space. Add to that the dining room chars and barstools... chair overload. In the photos you've posted, the fireplace is being left out of the equation. It needs at least one chair closer. Have you tried the sofa on the window wall? There is also a lot of unused real estate between the living room area and dining area. I would enlarge the seating area to include some of this space. To define the areas, you could use sofa with a console table or cabinet back to back with the dining area.

Hi! Thank you! I was thinking having 2 sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace but don’t want to put a tv over the fireplace. I’d like one but can live without it. I can always have an L shaped configuration with sofas facing the wall to the right of the fp and place a tv on that wall with a (floating?) console. I have no idea what to do with the other half of the room. I was wondering if I could put 4 chairs with a round table in the sitting/sun room or if the proportions would be off. I’d like seating for as many as possible. I host my big family (about 30 people) for the holidays every year and I’d like everyone to be comfortable with lots of seating. It is an after dinner gathering so I don’t need to worry about where to fit them for a sit down meal. The wall between the dining room and kitchen is coming down. I plan on putting an island with seating where that wall is presently. I am making the current breakfast nook into a pantry. I am also going to put up a wall into the 2nd entrance into the kitchen so I’ll be able to put a recessed fridge in that space. I will lose the access to the closet under the stairs but could put some sore of access in the powder room bid that crazy? I so appreciate you taking the time. Thank you!

Thank you, Lyn. If the space is there, it's really the only option. There is room for a TV on the wall if necessary.

I would never place a sofa directly across from a loveseat.

Not on the layout, but we have a set of three matchy items. Couldn't really find a complementary chair so we went with the set. So then I got three throw blankets of the same brand but in different colors throw over each, plus the same with pillows. Gives the eye something different to see when looking at each piece and adds a lot of color in our otherwise neutral room.

That chair is almost as big a loveseat. Any chance of not needing to use in the room? Move it out of the room and slide the cabinet over to where it was, but flat against the wall, not angled.

Does it matter you can see the back of the couch when you walk in? Think the lamps work? Then I’ll stop asking questions. 😆😅 Thank you!

I like the rearrangement. It looks cozy! Back of the couch is fine. But if it bothers you, consider putting a narrow console table in front of it.

Back of loveseat is fine ... some people seem to have a dislike for it, but sometimes it is the best option to make the best use of a space.

A narrow console table behind the sofa that is “first” upon entering will make it look deliberate and more finished. And yes, Beverly is very good at this!
