Okydoke... kitty too... as to shelves becoming cute - what color and style is in mind?

I think going with the comfy wicker is a good idea, and not just because of the cute cat! It's not tatty or anything so why not use it? If you would like it to be used as a seat, see if you can find one cushion to use as a seat cushion... maybe repurpose an outdoor couch cushion for hardwearing material - as the seat cushions currently there look like throw cushions. Paint wise, maybe a slightly off white. Too stark a white will be too clinical and cold. With the shelving, and lightweight industrial style could go well, even better if you could incorporate wood.

Anyway, these are the shelves. i bought them for my old office at my kennel and they are in storage. I have 2 of the tall sets and 1 of the low units.

It is unclear how YOU will use the office. Do you need an examining table? A secure cupboard for items. What will you put on the storage/display racks? “Treats” for your “clients?” Will clients come in with their pets? While I appreciate the wicker settee (along with the office kitty!), it can’t be too comfortable for many people without a proper seat cushion. You speak of wicker chairs. How large are they? Are they comfortable? Are they big enough to seat people of various sizes and shapes? Do you need a rug? Or will it be a tripping issue for pet owners/pee magnet (for their pets?). As has been suggested…lighter colored walls will brighten the room. Inexpensive, fun posters/artwork to enliven the space, that depict cats, dogs, animal life. Is this an office/examining room? What will happen in this room? That might shape advice given….

I'd paint the room dark and window trim white (leave baseboard as is). Then take some candid pics of resident pets or patients and enlarge.

I would angle the loveseat in its current spot and replace the cushions with outdoor/patio cushions. If there's room, I would add one of the chairs in the corner under the cat photo so it's readily available if needed...and maybe a window seat for Stevie.

Can we see all sides of the room?

Is this is your personal office as opposed to an exam room? It seems quite compact, so I would not add more furniture than is absolutely necessary for your own supplies and resource material and seating for visitors. Then, a soothing paint color, comfortable and coordinating cushions, and some bright art framed to go with your diplomas. I would add a lamp so you don't need to use the overhead lighting all the time.

The color is a matter of your preference. What you need is art. Cheap art is pictures your took nicely (and cheaply) framed.

Due to the carpet, I assume this is not an examining room which would have a hard surface floor. With the brown berber, I would look at a soft, creamy white for the walls. I wouldn't bother to paint window trim or baseboard. Plan on outside mounted roman shades that will hide the window trim. a lot of the time. If you can find a cute pet themed fabric for those, and have matching cushions made for the seating, it would be appropriate and fun. If you actually visit with clients in this office, I think two chairs would be a better choice for seating. If you don't receive clients here, you'd be better off facing the window so the computer screen doesn't pick up glare. Framed photos of your personal pets, or those of friends/relatives would be a nice touch for the walls.

What is width and length of this room. I can do a scale layout for you. Best to start that way. Also note size of desk width and length. Chairs are preferred if you have couples coming into this room. Doesn’t look large enough for too much furniture but I await actual measurements. Furniture placement first, then accents, then paint color, then window treatments. Keep to that sequence to avoid mistakes.

It would brighten up the room if you do something interesting with paint. Consider two colors of horizontal stripes. Do a cat climber with IKEA Lack Shelves.

Keep the wicker sofa and match the cushions with whatever color you use on the walls.

What kind of lighting do you have in the ceiling?

For a large piece of art on one of the walls, get a giant frame and copy favorite animal pet pics. Print them all the same size and in black and white. Here's an inspiration pic.

Thanks all for the comments and inspiration. I have had no time to even look at this post or work on the space. But things have settled down so I will get to work on it. I will post some more pics of my progress as I do along. I found a color scheme I really love so will post a pic of my planned colors.

So a quick description of how the space is used. I’m the office manager so mostly I do my clerical stuff in here. I also use it for doing employee reviews or interviews. Clients never come up to this floor. I don’t think I’ll do any animal artwork, the entire main floor is covered in vet hospital appropriate artwork. There is a total of 6 offices and everyone is doing their own thing. The Chief of Staff found the original hospital sign in the attic so she is hanging that and working from those colors. The Medical Director has her huge aquarium and that is kind of the focus in her space. I think I’ve decided to focus on the regional highlights. The county we are in is the “Apple Capital” of the state and is the beginning of the Appalachian Trail so I’m going that way I think.

This is the color scheme I really like. Not sure about doing the grey trim. All 4 walls the dark green, or just the wall with the bookcases?
