Design help! PLEASE!

Should I get rid of the sofa and only use the large trunk with the cool picture all centered between the sconces? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It is the sconces that don't work...very bad placement. Actually, there should be no sconces on that wall at all.

With limited photos, it looks like the rug should be turned. Or, even better, put the rug under the dining table.

The trunk does not appear right for that area. It seems too small for the space - and the picture looks too close to the size of the trunk. It would be good if you could add the dimensions of both to help us determine if it would work or not.

What is on the other side of the room? Can you place the sofa (the one along the wall) on the opposite side of the rug, facing the wall instead?

Agree that those sconces don't do anything for the room, and are at a very awkward height and spacing. I would eliminate them if possible - this will open so many more design options for the room. I would also try turning the rug or purchase a rug that better fits the room.

Just bought a house that’s stuck in the 90s. My husband is insistent on SLOWLY furnishing and remodeling (spent too much on the house I guess). First order of business, we had the interior painted (Sherwin Williams accessible beige). This couch is the only thing I’ve purchased so far. Not crazy about the pillows, I’ll probably buy some covers for half of them. But it’s super comfy and deep and can fit 10 people easily. My problem is I don’t know how to place my rug as well as, I don’t know what other furniture (besides a coffee table obviously) I should put in this room. It’s a big room with very high ceilings, and the very large openings to the sunroom/tv room (which is a whole other big problem area) make it difficult. That tiny side table is just there for now so we have a place to sit a drink. The big blank wall has me stumped as well. (Don’t come at me about the ugly tile or the massive tv the previous owner left… I know it’s awful.) The mirror and faux plants on the mantle are just place holders until I can get my aesthetic pinned down. Not sure what it is yet. LOL! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

HU-187528210, thank you! You mentioned beige grass cloth, which I do love for it's natural feel. But I agree that it might not work in our space (not "modern" enough). I wonder if a light beige paint would work (but everyone says beige is outdated!)? I also agree that the hardware should get changed out. I wonder if black would work? And, yes, I definitely need a mirror with a frame like you've shown in your photo! I have seen a company that sells frames that stick onto builder grade mirrors. Not sure the quality of those or how well they work.

The pieces look like nice pieces, but it’s very matchy matchy, which is usually not great. I’d personally remove the chair and either return it if you can, sell it or use somewhere else in the house. I’d keep the couch and loveseat in an L configuration with a round pedestal table between them. I’d find an accent chairs in a pattern or color to use in the room, and then I’d add in a coffee table, floor lamp table lamp, pillows and art. I think you need to get the seating figured out first.

You need to make it obvious that the way into the house is up the stairs. Hence, somehow emphasize the foot of the stairs with landscaping and color. Could you continue the wall to the other side of the driveway? We need a better photo of the entrance to the stairs. Could you have the stairs rebuilt so that the steps aren't so high and hence that the bottom step comes out into the driveway. You could also widen the stairs to emphasize them and perhaps have a spot for a planter on the bottom.

IMO wall sconces are never a great idea I don't even like them in bathrooms. So close off the sconce at least it is at a height that big piece of art can cover the cover plate I might be tempted to get a huge pices that sort of starddles both spaces and I am curious why the 2 different colored sofas I need a better pic of the trnck and you need to not have matching pillows anywhere use some color from the new art for a couple of pillows

The couches are the same color with throw pillows. The area rug pulls and art pull it all together. The sconces were a marital compromise. This is a new build so removing the sconces at this time is out.
