Which color paint - SW Alabaster or Benjamin Moore White Dove

last year

My home is a Williamsburg Cape Cod. The hardwood floors throughout are darkly stained. All the trim (baseboard, windows, all interior doors) are stained in the same dark color. Will be having all interior walls repainted. Which would look best... Sherwin Williams Alabaster, or Benjamin Moore White Dove?

My favorite is Alabaster SW. I am afraid that White Dove ( off-white) looks sometimes dingy.

Watched so many videos and read many articles about white paint, I pretty much bought all the popular white paints and tested them out in all directions of my house. Im bouncing between those 2 colors too! BM White Dove and SW Alabaster. Haha! Both beautiful colors. It really boils down to the color palette you want to use for your home.

Did you keep the White Dove or switch to something else? We will have TONS of natural light (4 skylights and tons of windows/doors that are south facing and will get Colorado sun all day). I'm hoping since it's the weekend I can stall a little until Monday morning and may just have to paint some boards tomorrow to put up and see how they look in the light throughout the day.

I agree. I really dislike too much gray. That is why I thought White Dove was a good choice becasue it is a warmer white. I am only doing agreeable gray on the walls in the kitchen becasue that is the color that was alredy in the kitchen when we moved in (we had to redo kitchen becasue of leak). I am open to another color on the walls in the kitchen. The granite we will have is Bianco Romano Supreme. any suggestions for a wall color that will look good with white cabinets and this granite? while were at it.....any ideas on a good color for the isalnd? Thanks to everyone for their help.

I am getting conflicting information of weather the color is the true color or a color match. The same store told me 2 different things. Sounds like it's too late now but FYI. The only way to know is to measure the Coronado mix to a new, clean paint chip - you need a target, a standard to measure against. Preferably not one from the fandeck. Ask the store to crack open a new pack of chips and pull one from there. Ordering a designer over-sized chip from Orderfront is best. Wherever you get the target paint chip, there are two ways to measure and compare it to a sample from the can. You need to paint a sample to measure. Two coats. Has to be thoroughly dry. The store can measure each and tell you the difference. You want them to tell you the Delta E. If it's under 1.0, it's a minimal difference and honestly hard to argue because it's a degree of difference most people would never notice. And, it's a degree of difference you're going to adapt to and pay no mind to in about two weeks. The other option if you don't trust the store is to order a Color Muse and measure the two colors yourself. The app has a compare function with a Delta E alert. If the two colors are a qualified match, you get a green Delta E. If there's a problem, it's red. Make sure you choose d65 from the menu like you see here. These colors are (obviously) not a match. You want to take 3 to 5 measurements from different areas of the chip and the painted sample just to get the most fair snapshot of both colors.

@Beverly Would Simply White for ceiling and trim be a better choice? For the main color of the house, I'm also debating between BM Calm vs. Wind's Breath. I'm having European white oak light color hardwood floor, which main wall color would look better.

I'm leaning towards Alabaster! I think it works better with the color palette that I want for our home. White oak flooring with tricorn black, iron ore, sage, and gold accents throughout the house. Just trying to figure out which black paint to use for the kitchen cabinets.

I love Alabaster, but I don't have dark floors and trim.

When you have light and bright White Dove can look a bit dingy, but Alabaster may look too white with the dark floors and trim.

You don't want that "Primed but forgot to paint" look.

I would suggest Classic Gray or China White with dark floors and a white trim! the colors are very faint but adds depth. Test those 2 colors out in your home 😉

Jennifer Hogan...exactly what I am concerned about! All the rooms except the kitchen and bathrooms will be painted the same color. Do not want house to look like it's primed and waiting for a coat of paint.

@tugby It will look like primer, if youre gonna leave the wall bare. But when you hang art pieces on the wall that's a different story. It will actually make furniture and accessories pop! So it all depends on your preference. Im back to square one on colors again. omg! Haha! Pure white looks it can tie everything together. Look at pictures haha! Its either Pure White, Simply White, White Dove, or Alabaster. Snowbound is another beautiful color however I heard its not a good whole house paint color.

I think both will look too stark or like primer. Here is a great article and pics. With dark trim you need something with more color value.

You're kind of spinning in the same hue family pocket with all four colors. Different Values (light/dark) and slightly different Chromas (how much color).

Maybe it would be a good idea to get samples of all four. If you do, put them in order exactly how I have them listed. Can also try putting them in order by Chroma.

Being able to compare all four in order by hue, value and then chroma can help you decide by figuring out what characteristic matters most.
