Coronado is probably a commercial line for BM.
They sell it at our local hardware store to replace the BM line they previously carried.
I think the banner says Coronado Paints for or by BenjaminMoore. Google it?
The base is probably the same. But might be less pigments in the Coronado line and thus lower price. In paint you pretty much have more pigment and higher cost for those pigments. Just theorizing on this.

I would be livid too. When you hire a painter, and give the name and the brand of paint, then that is what should be used. If I caught that painter in a lie, he would be out the door fast. It may mix up to the same color, but, it is not what you specified.

thanks for your responses. He has already painted one coat on my plaster trim and windows in my 1924. I am going to see if he can put another coat on with the right paint, although it looks like they don't need it. Is it bad to put on extra coats? It is coronado alkyd enamel rough walls.

Do you have rough walls that would have been the thing I changed before painting. Sometimes painter get kick backs from certain commercial lines and that could be it but IMO when I ask for a certain paint it better be the one I asked for. Where I live oil based paint has been gone for a long time

All walls, should receive two coats, even if they look decent with one.

HI -- It is probably the same but check with Benjamin Moore for conformation . I have a paint store that can mix any color of any brand of paint because they supply for pro painters . It always works for me .Names mean nothing . The paint I have now has two names and numbers . One off the old color deck and the new name off the new color deck and it is Benjamin Moore Paint .

I had a painter who insisted on using alkyd for the tough jobs. He said that he got better coverage and it blocked bleed through. Since it is harder to use alkyd than acrylic or latex based paints, he had some reason and experience that caused him to take on that extra work.

I think you mean Coronado's Tough Walls Alkyd Enamel.

Agreed with Armchair...there had to be some reasons why the painter opted for alkyd paint over the easier to use/ easier to clean-up water based paints.

FWIW, I had Benjamin Moore's Cloud White color-matched in Pittsburgh Paint's Breakthrough Paint and an unknown teal color color-matched in Sherwin William's paint. I forget what brand the original teal color was--I bought it from a garage sale because I loved the color and needed more of it. Both are perfect, dead-on matches.

**ETA--If you hired a truly professional painter w/ a ton of experience and a great word of mouth reputation, I would defer to his/ her judgement. They know a lot more about paint than us non-pro's do, and they will prefer to use paints that they have experience with. Not that you shouldn't ask questions about why they selected X paint. You should so you are comfortable trusting them plus what you will learn by asking questions.

We smoothed out the textured walls. He bought coronado tough walls. I am getting conflicting information of weather the color is the true color or a color match. The same store told me 2 different things. There are already coats of paint on the trim. He offered to put a third with satin impervo. I concerned that the plaster trim will have too many coats. Am I being paranoid?

I called benjamin moore and they said the color should be the same. The satin impervo is a lower sheen than the coronado tough walls semi-gloss so they would have to sand before applying a third coat of satin impervo. The room is very dark and the painter said the semi-gloss will brighten up the room and the shine will mellow down.. I'm going to stick with it. I hope it looks good. Yes of course it is a color match. Benjamin Moore bought Coronado Paints. The paint is the same. They are still cross matching, which isn't always perfect. Also, there is nothing wrong with applying more coats.

Sounds like it's too late now but FYI.

The only way to know is to measure the Coronado mix to a new, clean paint chip - you need a target, a standard to measure against.

Preferably not one from the fandeck. Ask the store to crack open a new pack of chips and pull one from there. Ordering a designer over-sized chip from Orderfront is best.

Wherever you get the target paint chip, there are two ways to measure and compare it to a sample from the can. You need to paint a sample to measure. Two coats. Has to be thoroughly dry.

The store can measure each and tell you the difference. You want them to tell you the Delta E.

If it's under 1.0, it's a minimal difference and honestly hard to argue because it's a degree of difference most people would never notice. And, it's a degree of difference you're going to adapt to and pay no mind to in about two weeks.

The other option if you don't trust the store is to order a Color Muse and measure the two colors yourself. The app has a compare function with a Delta E alert. If the two colors are a qualified match, you get a green Delta E. If there's a problem, it's red.

Make sure you choose d65 from the menu like you see here. These colors are (obviously) not a match.

You want to take 3 to 5 measurements from different areas of the chip and the painted sample just to get the most fair snapshot of both colors.

Thanks for the info LorI! I have a 12/12 sample from samplize but it is eggshell. The Coronado is alkyd enamel. Do they have to be the same type and sheen to compare Color? Does a higher sheen just appear lighter or is it?

It can.

Sheen does affect color appearance. It's subjective and depends on the color if it looks lighter or darker and who ya ask.

Coronado Tough Walls Alkyd is absolute garbage. While it looks nice, it off-gasses forever at very high VOC levels. I measured 7mg/m3 over 4 months after the cabinets were painted in my kitchen and letting the house air out when I can with open windows. I had other cabinets with UltraLaq enamel that have no noticeable off-gassing. So if you want to live in a toxic waste dump after painting, use Coronado Alkyd.
