View of Plantation Shutters from the exterior
Comments (9)mimi, love the look of your shutters and think it is just right for your windows! Your upper glass is smaller panes, and it just seems like it is more of a transom. caroleoh, thank you! We are building in SW FL, and it's a new development that is suppose to have a more 'northern style' home. It still is very much a FL home with a big Lanai, but a little different with hardwood floors and an upstairs bonus room. So, I rode around this afternoon and did find a lot of tall windows with shutters. It seemed as most of them went up 2/3rd if they had the upper section in an arch or eyebrow shape... which makes sense. 75% of the windows like mine seemed to go all the way to the top, and the other few that did not - had some type of valance/cornice on the top section. It really didn't look strange at all from the road, however they looked very formal, and I really am trying to make it 'casual elegant' feel. Not much sun in these rooms, they are facing North, and most of the sunlight will be from the back and sides of the home. what to do, what to do... so many decisions!!...See MoreUpdating the exterior of rambling rancher, shutters or no shutters?
Comments (8)Thank you for the replies everyone. No we can't change the window order and we actually did consult a designer before I ordered the windows. I asked her opinion on the white windows and she was fine with it knowing I wanted a classic traditional, timeless look. I actually never considered my house to be a MCM. I have an original photo somewhere taken by an appraiser when it was built. I considered it more of a California Rancher with a little Cinderella Rancher thrown in. It has had shutters since it was built, the only difference is that they have been updated over the years getting rid of the chipped edge look. The window with the diamond leaded glass was replaced and the rounded facia boards which extended past the roof by about 4 feet were cut back. I mentioned we are open to getting rid of the shutters we're just wondering how to add more interest or color if we did. It is such a long house, I don't want it to look boring.. A MCM look would not fit in in this old country-like neighborhood. It would stand out. We do have an Eichler neighborhood nearby where that would fit right in. Thanks again....See MoreBahama shutter / exterior color question
Comments (3)I like the look of Bahama Shutters and we are putting them on our house.. the question is what color not IF they should add the shutters. Colors can be difficult. I would hire someone local that is good with color and have them help....See MoreI am in the process of painting my brick ranch white
Comments (10)Your heading says "I am in the process of painting my brick ranch white" so I take it the work has already started. I really like white brick houses with black windows. Have a look at this link from Brick & Batten that illustrates several houses with the look you're looking for: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6288330/exterior-shutters-question?bsft_aaid=329e9826-7f03-489a-bf58-7ecadf452c0f&bsft_eid=7602e698-a539-4276-9151-ccaff570395e&bsft_pid=68e7f03f-3754-4e73-85f1-88f5fbcb2e92&utm_campaign=073122-us-homeowner-newsletter&utm_source=blueshift&utm_medium=email&utm_content=073122-us-homeowner-newsletter-checkerboard&bsft_clkid=f2a4bcb8-6790-4fd9-9d9e-52443f52fd85&bsft_uid=59c12f53-6023-4255-ac18-8689c7fa81c7&bsft_mid=167e7d65-d4f7-45f3-bce8-7ecb3391b818&bsft_pp=9&bsft_link_id=9126&bsft_mime_type=html&bsft_ek=2022-07-31T08%3A00%3A37Z&bsft_lx=113&bsft_tv=13&utm_term=block2prod0...See Moreaseidel
