Advice: Stained Plantation Shutters, painted window trim
Comments (1)We had this same problem when we built last year. We have no white on the exterior of the house but have creamy white trim on the inside everywhere except DH's study. When it came time to put shutters on the walk-in closet, we chose to use the stained shutters with white trim and it looks fine. Here's a picture:...See MorePlantation Shutters & Colors
Comments (40)I love plantation shutters (softened with curtains, not standing alone, please!) and intend to install them in our new house -- we don't have the right windows for them in our current house. Yes to white shutters and white trim. These things aren't cheap, and white will see you through any changes in color scheme you may make later. Also, most people go with wooden floors -- your room can only take so much wood tone. Break it up with white. I'm confused about details though: - Wood, vinyl, or composite -- which will last and be the best value? - Is a plantation shutter in the bathroom (obviously not in the stream of the water) doomed to water damage? - I'm assuming it's cheaper to install the shutters AFTER the build is over -- not the builder himself?...See Moregrid windows and plantation shutters too busy?
Comments (26)I just found this thread and I'm in the same situation. Britepam1- did you finish your window project? Do you have an "after" photo? I also have a ranch style house, built in 1973. It has 2 big bow windows in front, which I hate. However, as I can't take them out, I have to live with them. We are in the process of starting to replace the original *ugly* windows. I love the look of the grids, but we have plantation shutters. Our consultant said grids with shutters would look too busy. I really want grids, but I'm having a hard time visualizing the bow windows with grids AND plantation shutters, from the outside. I looked online and can't seem to find an example that looks like my house. I want to update the house from the 1970s look and make it more cottage-y, or even more Arts/Crafts style (if that's possible with a ranch house). Any input? Thanks....See MoreDo Plantation shutters have to match the trim?
Comments (8)Hi Brittany i’m curious about what you decided on your shutter color i painted my walls with a light gray and used a dark gray trim My rooms are large with high celings so there is plenty of light i am considering having my shutters dipped in a white with a gray understone i’m getting a sample of a shutter in that color next week i’m sticking with white but the color white that I currently have will not work with gray so my shutters will need to change or else I’ll have to go back to white trim Just curious with what you did Thanks!...See Moremaddielee
