I don't like my backsplash...Should I send it back?
Comments (30)It doesn't look that bad to me. The pattern would practically disappear with a like-colored grout and would just be a subtle texture. If the color is off (which is best determined in person and in different lighting) it might always annoy you which is a good reason to send it back. But the photos don't look any worse than some others I've seen posted that have been "oooh"ed and "ahhh"ed. I think if you had posted how much you loved it, you'd have had just as many agree. To me, the black hardware and wood valance "speaks" of a more country (vs urban) look. But I don't know the overall effect you're hoping to achieve....See More5" Matching Backsplash/Bath Vanity/I Don't Care For Them
Comments (14)I would love a gold/amber glass so I am sad your husband nixed it. I would prefer a higher than 5" matching splash with a cap. I also think there are some interesting ways to use the matching granite and not be tied to standard 5" Cant remember if you can use your glass sink as a vessel? Comments (20)How accurate are those photos for actual color? Would it serve better to draw out that squash gold or the gray? (Personally, I think there's more than enough of the pinky yellow.) Or introduce an accent that matches the wood? What feeling does the owner prefer: warm colors? cool colors? Are there other colors or patterns in the room that need to be considered? Formal or informal? Budget? DIY or pro install? Access to vendors? Personal preferences for materials? Has she taken the Sweeby test? Definitely avoid small mosaic glass tiles unless they're a trim band no more than 3 inches tall and positioned at least 10 inches above the counter and are a good match with the countertop. srg215's monocolor solution has a lot of wisdom to it, and the tile size is big enough to provide a larger, regular counterpoint (pun intended) to the countertop's irregular pattern. It defuses it, although his/her granite has fewer color tones than this one. Definitely recommend living with this for a while and perhaps trying out some colors and textures via paint, fabrics, kitchen objects, maybe wallpaper or stencil. Tile backsplashes are generally expensive enough and permanent enough to set this owner up with a second reason for dissatisfaction if she rushes into things....See MoreKitchen needs a backsplash, but I don't know what style.
Comments (15)Back splash provides to functions. To protect the wall behind the cooking space from greasy splatter and all cooking residue by providing a wipe-able surface for cleanup. The other thing it accomplishes (when done well) is to add a real pop or interest in what frequently becomes a bunch of plain surfaces. If this home were for sale on the market and a potential buyer was looking at it, they would think someone had forgotten to finish the kitchen if it was left without backsplash. The HOuzz site has thousands of photos of beautiful kitchens which will give you great inspiration to choose a backsplash that will add to the beauty of the counter top and the rest of the space....See Moremcarroll16
