White double entry doors with cedar shakes?

We aren't in love with these white doors. We are wondering if painting them black might be a nice contrast. Or would just accessorizing with big planters in front and updated landscape be the cure?

The oval inserts are the problem, they don’t jive with the rest of the aesthetic. But if we are only trying to fix with paint black also seems a bit urban, there are so many colors to choose from. Lime green, yellow, French blue, purple…

Replace the doors with a large single and bigger side lights. No oval. And none of that awful $1.98 ”fancy” leaded glass either. Those doors are trying way too hard to add something that isn’t missing to the house.

Our lumberyard sells the Sierra Primed Shake Deep Groove in 20 board bundles at $168.30 per bundle, which breaks down to approx $8.40 per 8' board. We did price out the pre-finished in Maple too...$259.25 per bundle or approx $12.96 per board. Those prices are with a 15% discount that they very kindly offered since we're OBing. :o)

Tib...we had Certainteed. Many boards cracked. The co replaced the boards. We paid for the labor to replace them. They didn't match due to fading. House had to be repainted. They provided a few buckets of paint, lol. just a headache with all of the warranty issues. Then there was a class action suit that we chose not to participate in....yada, yada, yada. I haven't seen the issues online with the Nichiha and have considered this brand as well. lots of good stuff online about the LP Smart Siding but who really knows about that stuff in a few years. Gotta choose something sooner or later.

Let's me try to take more photos and update. Sorry the ones I have is low resolution. Sammy, the glass on top of the door is to bring more lighting into the house and stairs. It doesn't have to be directly on top but a square glass between ceiling and top of the door. Don't you think it's a good idea though? NHBabs z4b-5a NH, over time when we have guests and 1 person standing outside and 2 inside, the door is always swing back and forth while we talk and it is stucked in the middle. Two people standing inside is impossible with the door is 1 foot against the stair. Also when we have packages and left inside right at the entrance, it's very tough to move around the door between upstair and downstair... I would also think shaving 2-4" might not help it either for the space limitation but just thinking...

I love everything about it right now, except for the color of the shutters. I would much prefer them to be painted to match the roof. I dont think the house will look nearly as good painted white.

Agree that replacing the doors seems to be in order. While this isn't technically a Craftsman house, I think a Craftsman style door would look good. I would go with natural wood darker than the siding. Just keep the color warm to go with the siding. If you want a color, a dark sage green would probably work. It would go with the wooded lot. Almost everyone can stand to improve their landscaping, and I love planters next to a front door when you have room.
