"We painted the door red (is that cheating? I'm not sure) and made the wreath and garland with free scraps from the tree lot," writes Houzz user and blogger James Angus. "The cow skull? Well, this is Texas!"
"We have a cottage amongst mansions where we live. I try to honor that coziness by creating a welcoming entry — a sort of Christmas hug," says Houzzer antoinettekr. "All greenery is from our backyard — cedar and holly."
Valorie Hart brought lots of ornaments outside to her 125-year-old front door in New Orleans. "I made my wreath from cast-off ornaments by just hot gluing them to a cheap fake green wreath," she says. "I added two faux trees and hot glued the same color ornaments, and elevated them in garden urns. I added lights to the wreath and the trees."
"This is our first Christmas in our newly renovated home, so I splurged on a beautiful custom-made star wreath," says kerryandfaulkner.
Houzz user 20 State is "keeping it simple here in Australia!" Simply brilliant, this wreath works well with her bright turquoise door.
"This idea came as an afterthought because I ran out of fresh greens," says sweetwist. "So I made a swag with battery-operated lights. I have received rave reviews from the neighbors."
Houzz user pincicrib also scored big at a big-box store, declaring "all greenery from Costco!"
"I love using live greenery for pots, wreaths and garland on my front porch," says mariahanson. "I think it says 'welcome' in a classic way."
"I left all of the fake garland in the boxes this year and went with real cedar and berries," says melissaskidmore. "I tied burlap ribbon bows to lanterns for a natural feel, and I included my own childhood sled."
Here's a closer look at melissaskidmore's beautiful handiwork along the railing.
"We do the Williamsburg theme over our door with fresh pineapple, apples and magnolia leaves," says grammy05. "We live in the Charleston, South Carolina, area and it is warm, but somehow it does fine. We also use real garland around our wrap porch with white lights and also around the door."
"Here's the view of our front porch; most of the greens came from our yard, all design done by my husband," says Houzzer deldeb.
Houzz user joyabaker's iron door is new this year. Red, lime and purple ornaments are a fabulous and unexpected holiday color combination.
"I am totally admiring these and envy those who do not have to contend with variable weather conditions," says mrsben. "Due to the latter and the climate I live in, I keep my exterior decorating to a minimum."
Personally, I appreciate getting to see the snow falling in this shot, in which her reindeer have moved under the porch for shelter from the storm.

"Simple Texas turquoise, " says hrhdiane2. "We had fun painting this big Texas color on the front door, so we kept the Christmas embellishment sparse." Of course, "sparse" in Texas can include fantastic peacock feathers.
"We will have construction going on in a few days, so elaborate was not in this year," says Houzzer Victoria. "I decorated the little evergreen with dried flowers and some ivy. The wreath has little lights to glow at night, and all the windows have candle lights."
"It's our first Xmas in our new house, and I wanted to keep it simple, because the siding and brickwork are busy enough," writes amackinney. "I will have to step it up next year, because people have posted so many festive ways of showing their talent and spirit for the holidays."
Amanda Barnhardt paired a lovely vine and pinecone wreath with her rich wood door.
A peak of a beautifully lit tree through a front door is always enticing. Kim Gilley writes, "Green, brown and gold for our door this year. Merry Christmas, everyone!"
"We have a one-lite front door and a business designing films," says Lori Lacy. "So every season we change it out. I always make sure the design includes some open space at the bottom so the dogs and cat can look outside!"
