Bosch DW smells awful after every wash
Comments (74)Not sure the insulation - damp or otherwise - makes much sense to me. At least in the Bosch DWs and I would have to imagine, any well constructed DW, the insulation is not open to the DW itself and in fact is more open to the outside than to the inside of the DW cavity. So should the insulation be getting overheated or dampened somehow, I would imagine that smell would be just as profound when you're in front of the DW with the DW door shut as when the DW door is open because the source of the smell is on the outside of the DW. I did have the dreaded DW stink. We had put in our DW about a month before the renovation and at that time, the DW did not smell at all. After the renovation, put the DW back and it smelt like the dickens for a few days. I didn't really suspect the DW 'coz it hadn't smelt at all at its first install but still, the smell was something fierce and entirely unpalatable. Well, it took a few days but eventually our kitchen sink backed up - the drain had had a slow clog somewhere and it took a while to be detectable. We got our plumber out, he flushed the line to look for the clog and indeed he did mention that after a renovation, it is not uncommon for the drain to become slow because during a renovation, construction trash does tend to get into the drains and so usually the drain lines should be snaked to ensure they're clear. He did say that he didn't hit anything noticeable but bottom line, the drain cleared, the sink drains perfectly and the DW immediately lost its stench. In the two years since the renovation has been done, the DW has not smelled at all except on the couple of occasions when a dirty dish was left in it for several several days when I went out of town (don't usually leave dirty dishes in the DW when am to be out of town for a week or more but I've forgotten a couple of times). I do a DW load every 3 to 4 days and I don't get DW-odour in that interval. Based on my experience, whenever I read of smelly dishwashers, I suspect a slow drain with the sewer gases backing up. One probably doesn't smell it in the kitchen because the smell gets a chance to diffuse. Well, that's my $0.02...See MoreMusty smelling towels
Comments (33)We order the win detergent on amazon.com in 3-packs. It also can be ordered directly from the website, or purchased at a sporting goods store (most sports authorities and some dick's). It's made specifically for athletic clothes, and is not supposed to fade or weaken the lighter weight fabrics, so I think it would work well for you lkplatow. My DH usually does the laundry, but before I found the Win his undershirts bothered me so much that I would take them out of the washer, soak them in oxiclean or a bleach solution, and spray the pits with spray & wash and then scrub the armpit area, before running them through a wash cycle. Now I just let him throw them in the washing machine with win and the smell is gone. Here is a link that might be useful: Win Website...See MoreMusty Smell in Afghan Blanket
Comments (39)Before I did any more washing, I would just place the afghan over a wood drying rack outside on a sunny day. It can be cold, you just don't want cloudy or any rain. You will have to fold in half lengthwise and place over the top and out to both sides. Bring in when the sun goes down and leave on rack to keep airing in the house. Sunlight kills mold spoors, if that is what it is. You may have an old mothball smell. Mothballs smell musty to me and the sun and fresh air will also remove that. I wouldn't add any more chemicals to the mix. I think it just needs to air out a time or two. If that doesn't work, you can always go further. I have the acrylic afghans just like yours from the same time period....See MoreMusty Smell After Remediation
Comments (19)So it might be getting better. ServPro came out and noticed that they didn't cover the sewer hole. They covered it and the smell dropped about 70%. But I would have thought that the sewer would have had a whole different rank smell, not so musty. I asked them if they treated any mold and they said no because the amount of mold was not significant enough to warrant calling in the mold team. If it still smells when they come back, I'm going to demand that they treat the mold. I had a mega moldy wall in our laundry room/garage that was covered in mold to at least 4 feet high. I removed the drywall and saturated the remaining studs (which also had visible mold) with hydrogen peroxide. I did it about 3-4 times over a few days and now our laundry room smells great. No musty smell at all. Literally, the laundry room is the best smelling place in the house right now....See Moreremodeling1840
