Did I just kill this tree?

Been transplanting pine trees to my yard. I've did 8. 3 died. 5 lived and were doing great. Did another as a replacement. I learned how to do it better, but still 6 out 9 seems pretty like pretty good results, I think.Anyway I was weed eating and being extremely careful when the string hit the metal tree stand and bump me into the tree. If I had been less careful I would have probably never hit it in a million years. I'm very annoyed I did this. It didn't go all the way around the tree but it did take some of the bark off. This tree was doing so well. Also what kind of pine is this? Is it loblolly or long leaf, of anybody can tell by the pictures? It is about 2 to 3 feet tall.If I have to transplant another I will but dang this tree was looking so good. All in all I plan on doing at least another 6 to 10 trees anyway but I hate to keep back tracking.I did not see how to upload images. Maybe this will work now. It did, after all that. If you click it the resolution clears up.

Grew up on an avocado ranch in southern Calif. and have grown them myself. Fuetes, Hass, Neaballs. I doubt that you killed the tree by dropping it. My moms tree fell over slightly(some root exposed out of the ground/covered the roots back up) in a high wind at about 3 years old and being she was eldlery she just left it and it grew just fine only a little sideways. They are hardy just don't like the cold. As for over watering- Avo's like water,drain well no mulch. Find a good spot and leave them there. From shade to sun (or v/v)will cause stress, burned or leaf drop. Avo's like sun just like any other fruit tree and you can treat them as such.

If your plant was healthy when you repotted, it will have plenty of energy (especially at this time of the year) to push a new flush of growth, You have the right idea .... keep it barely moist & in the shade (outdoors if possible) and wait. It's probably transplant shock, possibly made worse if you didn't take pains to keep the fine roots wet while you worked on them. Sunburn (photo-oxidation) is unlikely if you're only concerned about the amount of time in the sun during the repot, but if you're looking for symptoms - leaves turn silver or whitish - never red. The sun releases a free O- radical (the same one that is so loosely attached in hydrogen peroxide) which bleaches (oxidizes) the pigments in the leaf so they turn silver/white. Plant the off set and it should grow into a new plant. If it didn't break off. It would have broke the surface next to the mother plant and started to grow into another plant.

What zone you are in? Are the plants dormant now? I'm not a sage expert but in general... When you move a plant, digging it up causes loss of root mass. This means the plant has a more difficult time taking up water. Frequently plants wilt under this condition. Relatively speaking, a small number of roots cannot take up enough water to support a large number of leaves. When this happens, it helps the plant by pruning it back after the move, equalizing root mass and leaf mass. I've done this before and the plant stopped wilting and recovered. The next year it was full and looked great. So based on that, it may actually be easier on the plants to move them now before there is a large number of leaves. You shouldn't have a problem with wilting. Just my opinion.

You'd be well served to weed and mulch under all those trees- a string trimmer shouldn't be coming any where near them.

remove the grass.. i would use round up ... then some mulch..

and ergo.. just dont get near them with the weedwhip ..

the green edge you see in the wound is the cambium layer.. aka.. the vascular system of the tree .. if you break it around the whole trunk.. the plant above is dead ..

at best.. it looks like you injured what.. 10 or 15 % of it ... so what ... all other things done well... nbd.. it should easily recover ..

yo should be able to do better with moving small pines.. as your experience level increases ... do it at the right time of year.. in dormancy.. and move smaller plants.. and you should be all set ..

You can spray round up around trees like this? Didn't know that.

Yeah, I wish I had mulched them from the start. Yeah, I'd say it's no more than 20% around. I am so mad I did.

I'll try to get the grass up/sprayed and some mulch on them. Thank you.

I you don’t want to spray (which I wouldn’t) you can make a clear area by laying cardboard or layers of newspaper around the tree and putting mulch on top of it. Alternatively you can cut the turf out and invert it then mulch on top of that.
