Which Mirror Do You Prefer?

Another question: I found a lovely painted demilune chest at a resale shop, a nice shape and the finish is excellent. It has curved doors on the sides with shelves within, a center door with shelves, and the drawer glides smoothly. It was on sale for $325! DD liked it and I am having it delivered along with all the other stuff to the storage place I rented in their new town. Now we need a mirror, and IMO it demands a round mirror. (DD does not understand and wants to use an unattractive gray wood mirror she already owns that I plan to hide in the family entrance hall from the garage. It is a large area with a 7 or 8 foot drop zone and she needs a mirror there to have a quick look at herself as she goes out to the car.)

Mirror size between 30” and 33”. I found two; one at Ballard’s, a rubbed look blue and gold and one from overstock of driftwood looking wood. I was actually looking for wicker or rattan, something lighter and with texture as interest. In the context of this ever growing collection of items, which do you think works best? And any thoughts or places to look for wicker or rattan?

(DD doesn’t love the Ballard one but likes it better because she says why can’t they match? Why does nothing match?? I have to remember that she is a scientist and has never bought a bed without the matching chest of drawers. So, I need an attractive third option!)

Kswl I found one with a muted red cream rustic edge... looking at the rug and fabric thought it might blend but may not be what you or your DD want. Here's a photo. 31.5 " on Overstock. $116

To be honest, I think there are better choices out there. But my comment could be informed by my resistance to round mirrors.

Ice, thanks for posting your lovely kitchen. I struggle with visualizing ideas, so it is really helpful! Funky, if we go with additional lighting I think you are right that the sconces are going to work better with the look and small space. It also makes a lot of sense to add a little additional light - it can always be turned down - and to have a couple lights that are task-specific or for mood. The artwork idea is so fun. I'm going to have to think about this! I also have that evil powder room wall, if I could find the right decoration. There's something terribly pleasing about having begun the kitchen planning with the thought, "Oh my, where am I going to put all my stuff? How is this ever going to work?" and to be drawing toward the conclusion and be thinking things like, "My storage plan around the range should be nothing, or art. Bbtrix, Thanks for hunting out this pictures for me. The style you pictured and the placement might look really good in this situation. The pulls are a kind of a strange color, "antique pewter," so maybe hard to match. The faucet is chrome and lighting fixtures in the dining area are currently dark bronze. So ... we're already getting patchworky, for better or worse. Here are the pulls - first is the stock photo, and the second is a photo I took when investigating flooring. When I break ground I plan on starting a new thread and will start with a link to all the previous threads, including this one, which is why I wanted to make sure this one was updated with the "latest and greatest" in the exterior elevation. In fact last night I was looking over some of the old threads and was aghast at what I actually started with. While the original layout wasn't terrible, the elevations were ghastly. LOL. How wide is it from window to window including the door and your trim? what change did you make to your friend's entry? Thank you ILoveRed. In the drawing above from window to window is probably a bit too wide in the elevation but it's correct on the plan. So it will probably be just a bit narrower, but I wanted to have it to show the builder how I wanted it built. It's about 9 1/2' from trim edge to trim edge. Oops. Here's the friend's entry. I've been debating about the molding around the outer frame of the door entry. With or without? On the right side elevation, what is the band under the study windows? That's actually behind the master (for now until we change it) but it's the A/C and pool equipment. Both need to be enclosed according to code. However I will NOT have AC's below my bedroom window, especially with my bed up against that wall! I'm expecting them to move it to behind the study.

For multiple-item orders that ship at different times, it sure would be nice to have a view into the vendor's system to see "shipped/not yet shipped" per item. It's only software, how hard could it be? (that's a rhetorical question, no answers please!) I love Amazon and they rarely mess anything up, but recently they delivered the wrong book. Once it's marked 'delivered' there's no button I can press to change the status to "Oh no you didn't!". They eventually gave me a refund but my account still shows that book as purchased & delivered, which it never was because they didn't have it.Oh well -- small problem, but irritating.

I love the demiluna painted chest-- it ties all the blues together! I prefer the bottom left mirror with the other pieces in the room.

FWIW.. i do NOT think an eclectic, unmatched room looks "poor"... or that a matched room looks "less poor".

I like he bottom left. I love a simple round mirror as part of a vignette, and they are in right now. My DD has Ikea's Stockholm; it has a cute little shelf built in.

I took a pic of these mirrors at Home Goods yesterday. The covering is textured like straw.

I tried a couple of the wicker styles and they definitely add an ”extra” vibe i did not anticipate….thank heavens for Morpholio. Rather, thank Mtn as i think you suggested it years ago. I had just found this which is very similar to the one just posted, but a little heavier. From Wayfair

I really like the tone of this wood, also the width and depth of the frame I’m trying to avoid gold anything at DD’s request and this wood is the closest i can come to that tone 😎

I would use something different on chest, those candlesticks are to camouflage something that was on the chest in the store.

I really lke the last one as well. I have this simple round mirror in my foyer. Target! I bought one in gold as well and sometimes alternate. The scale here is distorted as I was trying to keep myself out of the photo.

Mtn, I have a very good quality mirror in my l/r. Seems to more correctly reflect my image. So sometimes I check myself between the two mirrors and choose to believe I'm somewhere in the middle, lol!

Pal, I haven’t seen an arch top mirror I really like. Many are gothic arches with mullions, and the narrow point at the top means a narrower mirror. DD doesn’t like gold leaf or silver, and I am trying to stay away from another painted finish above the demilune. So far I havent turned up even one suitable Palladian style mirror in my google search for images.

The round mirrors you've shown seem to overpower the chest. Maybe the scale is off? How wide is the chest (which is beyond perfect I need to add) 💙 if the size if right the lower left is my pick

I think the chest along the back edge is 42”. I was looking for a 30” mirror, mainly because a smaller one would necessitate corbels with something on them on either side, or sconces or prints and I think they would perceive that as fussy. You may be right about the scale. I have been googling like mad, my fingertips are tingling!

I'm feeling that you need something less predictable up there. It's almost looking too perfect.

This isn't over the top deco but just right. Some deco styles other than round might work.

You're right about excess "stuff" to fill a void. That size mirror requires nothing more.

Maybe for just this once, let DD have her first choice (inattracitve gray wood). She may very well change her mind once she sees it in situ. Sometimes, we need to make our own mistakes and eventually come to realizing our own style.

Please understand, this is not a criticism of anything you have done or are doing. I know you are having fun decorating for them and trying to get their input and guide them to what you think is going to look the best.

Oh Cyn… you do not know me very well, lol. The ugly mirror is not DD’s first choice, she just has it already and is thinking of utility. Utility is all very well but not when the item is a) ugly and b) inappropriate, and her mirror ticks both those boxes. Using it would be a crime against decorating, they would not see anything wrong with it and it would stay in place forever. Not happening!

Jt, I would also like something less predictable, which is why i’m leaning towards rattan or wicker. The one you posted is a great size but the shape looks like it can’t make up its mind.

Arapaho, i LOVE that mirror and would be willing to glaze that red with burnt orange to suit the brief.

Jinx, no furniture refinishing for me. Have you forgotten the sad tale of my Christmas deer? Besides, the finish on this piece is exquisite. Sound idea though that would admittedly give us more options.

I like that rope wrapped mirror from Houzza, Arapaho! The nautical one would not work; they aren’t nautical, they are horsey. How does this one look? The plate is an 8” IIRC from Anthropologie. I am trying to figure out how to use it 🤔

ETA: could the plate be used as a catchall on the top of the chest? Or upright in an easel on the chest? Is there a fireplace in the room? If so, could it go on the mantel on a stand?

The curtains came today and they are a dark rust. Fingers crossed they will like them, otherwise we will end up with plain Jane natural linen curtains that — while perfectly lovely— are everywhere.
