Need Suggestions for Colorful Entry and Curb Appeal
Comments (3)You do have alot of shade. Well you can research what would grow best in shade but these come to mind right away: hostas, camellias, hydrangeas, azaleas. I think the long narrow bed is too narrow, not deep enough. The porch is so pretty and the white trim really looks good with the shady setting. What I am going to suggest that you consider is widening that bed and maybe even including some of the trees into the bed. Make it curvy and grab a tree into the bed if it is close enough. I also like what is called island beds. And I have some where you make a big bed around a tree (don't go too deep with soil becoz of the tree roots) or connect two trees into one larger island. The National Wildlife Federation says that wildlife (like birds) like and feel safe in these islands. What about a brick path down the yard, I couldn't see where there was an entry onto the patio but a path would really connect the porch, long bed, and yard. I think you have a lovely setting there, if you're like me your only real problem is money!...See MoreI need help selecting the entry door color.
Comments (4)Thank you for your response Petesmom. You are right, the areas below the shaker aren't complete. The shingles will be repeated there. We originally selected a dark reddish brown door in Sherwin Williams 2838 Polished Mahogany, but my interior designer thinks that the door will get lost in the dark brick, dark mortar, etc. That made me second guess our decison. Thanks again....See MoreDesparately need help on color for entry door
Comments (11)Putting "in my opinion" here so I don't have to reitterate it throughout this note. :) I have to mirror the earlier suggestion to get rid of the shutters. When they very obviously would not cover the window they are flanking, they look extremely out of place. Before I saw the stone close-up I was thinking "BLACK!" But now that I've spent more time on the stone, I would avoid black. I lived diagonal from a pinkey-beige house with white trim and creamy landscaping accents. Then owners painted their formerly purple door & stair rail black, and their house instantly screamed "Candyland" (as in the board game) to me. All I could see when I looked at their house was the game card with the neopolitan ice cream sandwich. Ugh! I wonder how a dark reddish brown would look - one that if you went to the top of the strip would have a slightly pinkish color. Or a dark subdued blue. If you wanted to pull the shutters down, you could use your landscaping options to fill the empty space....See MoreColor(s) to Paint Interior of Entrance Door
Comments (19)Blueberry blue or a dark red would be my picks for the outside, although a spinach green or dusky purple would look good too -- your brick is a good shade that will go with lots. Indoors I think all white w/ white trim (a white that matches your cabinets) would be fine, especially since your trim and stair are white also; but I think that I would rather try to match the wall. Using an enamel (gloss or semi-gloss) will change it enough from the wall to give it interest without being obviously different. If I didn't like it after a few months, I would repaint. It only takes an hour to paint a door....See MoreMichelle Guilbeaux
