And, while we're on the topic of doors... Here's the exterior. My thoughts are: white trim to match the rest of the exterior trim, and maybe a bright-ish red door? Of course, I could go with a black door to match the (plastic, so not paintable) window box. But black seems so... black.

I'd get a colored exterior door. Maybe one of the flower pots? Or same color as fence and stucco but darker (yellow/orange?)

As far as interior door, I'm not sure about the wall color. If it's a different, lighter, color than the wall it might also draw the eye further away. Yellows move towards the eye, different color for the door would actually make it recede.

Thanks, nsm. I'm not sure if I want the door to recede, I'm thinking blend in, since I'll have colorful art, rug, sofa... But maybe. For the outside, well, I just have to figure out a color to paint it. I've seen brick row homes w/ red doors and find them appealing, but it's true that none of my flowerpots are red.

I have a red front door; actually, have had it in various shades of red for 25+ years. The terracotta pots are neutral, so I'd say any color goes. Put some red flowers in the pots :)

What I meant with the interior door was more to say that a different color may make the room appear larger because if everything is yellow, it will make that wall appear to come towards you when you look at it from, say, the kitchen.

As is, it actually looks good to me, especially since you have the glass above the door.

Can you paint paper yellow and tape it to the door?

Look at Hunting coat red by Ralph Lauren or similar colors for the door. Deep rich. For exterior! White trim.

I wouldn't paint it the wall color, I would leave the interior side white so it matches all your other doors and trim. Our walls are a similar color inside and the mix of white and yellow is quite pretty.

I would paint the interior door and door trim white, so it is one seamless block of white.

A cool old building like that deserves a colourful exterior door! I'd do a smoky blue. What's your favourite color? Helps if you can tie it in through flowers and accessories.

I vote all white. I don't think white trim around a yellow door would have the effect you are looking for.

I would paint all the other trim yellow and the door and it's trim white, before I would paint the entry door yellow. The entry door is really the most important opening and it should not be camouflaged or suppressed color wise.

So since the other trim is white, I would paint this all white as well.

Outside could be anything, including red but it would have to be a red that worked well with the brick without blending with the brick.

How about a deep dark green, much darker than shown in the Build Direct samples, for your front door? Dark Green that does not read "blue."

Blueberry blue or a dark red would be my picks for the outside, although a spinach green or dusky purple would look good too -- your brick is a good shade that will go with lots.

Indoors I think all white w/ white trim (a white that matches your cabinets) would be fine, especially since your trim and stair are white also; but I think that I would rather try to match the wall. Using an enamel (gloss or semi-gloss) will change it enough from the wall to give it interest without being obviously different.

If I didn't like it after a few months, I would repaint. It only takes an hour to paint a door.

I would do exactly what raee said, paint interior door and trim the wall color in a gloss. I actually did that in my own open plan home. We had nine doors with most in view and left four in wood/stain with matching trim. All the rest are the wall color in gloss. It would have looked choppy otherwise. My house is larger than yours but is still a somewhat small home.
