Sorry for the super late reply, I've been really busy at work Yeah, I'm really concerned about the Scheff. It still looks the same. I was also thinking that the leaves aren't getting any water. When I repotted it, I didn't clean the roots which I think was one of the main mistakes I made. There also weren't a lot of roots, like it wasn't stringy roots like the ones from my flowers in my flowerbeds. I think another mistake I might have made was I used top soil instead of potting soil because I thought...well dirt is dirt, right? lol But from what I've read online maaaaybe I should have spent a little more for potting soil lol I did get rid of all of the dirt/mud from before. So I'm thinking.....maybe I need to repot it again using potting soil and clean the roots and maybe it will survive. I'm just kind of lost and frustrated but I really want the plant to live :( Btw, the Pothos is still looking great and is still growing new leaves so at least I saved it lol

Not much info is right. I think its a cross of S. actinophylla and S.arboricola. For me in the SF Bay area the larger Schefflera is hit and miss..some big ones. S.arboracola is very hardy here. So I guess I should expect Amate to be 10 a- low end- hardy. But other things like..will it flower? No information on that. No info on growth speed. And a photo of one outdoors in California is nowhere to be found. I would think its going be less gangly and less invasive root wise,then the common Shefflera. ALL guesses.

Sometimes the best thing to do is consider the problem idiopathic and simply turn to making sure you have the basics covered. You need first, a good soil that offers at least the opportunity for good root health, favorable light levels and temperature range, and a sound nutritional supplementation program. Fortunately for you and your plant, it's the perfect time of year (if you live in the northern hemisphere) to formulate a plan that should turn your plant around and prepare to initiate it. If you get the basics covered and cultural conditions favorable enough that the plant is growing in its 'sweet spot' instead of at the limits of what it was programmed to tolerate, you'll be golden. I'm not offering more because I'm counting on the fact you'll have interest in learning how to provide that sweet spot and will start asking questions. Dave, I have yet to post the basil pictures but my camera's proprietary usb cable stopped working and a new one is due today. There may be a bit of miscommunication regarding the dry soil suggestion. It is easier to remove a plant from its pot when the soil is a bit on the dry side. Especially it is a clay pot. The reason is that the soil shrinks a bit when it is dry and detaches from the pot - mainly on the sides of the pot. It also makes it easier to chop the roots and rake them when it is a bit on the dry side. This works for up-potting since it is much quicker and the remaining roots are never let to dry out completely. For bare rooting I would mist it frequently or put it in a bucket of water after the initial removal of roots. However, it is never a good idea to take a plant out of the pot and let it dry in open air. Even for succulents as long it has any fine roots. Vernakay: Take cuttings and root them. If the plant is really droopy remove some of the leaves to reduce its water needs. I would take out at least 50%. Water the plant very well and let it drain out. Tilt the pot at 45 degrees to drain out excess water. Cover the rest of the plant in a large enough clear plastic bag to make a mini greenhouse of sorts. If needed prop up the bag using a few sticks in the soil so that most of the leaves/branches do not touch the bag. Tie the bottom of the bag to the pot loosely. For large plants I wrap a drop cloth. Poke a few holes in the bag so excess humidity can escape. Every day open the bag for 10-15 minutes. Leave the plant in a very bright area out of direct sunlight. And then hope for the best. I have revived many plants (not all) from near death like this and it may also work for you.
