Comments (14)Thanks Dave. Those links are full of great stuff! I've been trying to wait longer before watering to avoid the whole root rot problem, but one of those links talks about feeling near the drain holes to gauge when to water. This will definitely help me! Can't get my hands on a magnifying glass today but I do have a higher magnification mirror. Still couldn't see much. Flat looking brownish things all along the stems of leaves and top of each leaf. Don't seem to be underneath leaves. Tried scraping a couple off and had to use a little force as they don't come off easily. Kind of orangish brown, smushes easily once off plant. Here's some pics, don't know if this helps:...See MoreSchefflera tip: what happens next?
Comments (60)The original plant of this discussion looks like S. arboricola, often referred to as dwarf. A plant of smaller stature and slower growth. http://garden.org/plants/view/74359/Umbrella-Tree-Schefflera-arboricola/ The bigger one is S. actinophylla, a much bigger plant that needs more sun. My house isn't big enough to get involved with one of those. http://garden.org/plants/view/74357/Umbrella-Tree-Schefflera-actinophylla/...See MoreEncouraging growth near the base of a large schefflera?
Comments (5)First off, you need to root stems, not just the leaf and petiole (the petiole is the leaf stem, you need an actual trunk stem). Second, the only way to force lower growth is to cut it back higher up. These plants will keep growing from only one tip unless cut back and forced to back bud. Third, I'm not sure this would be the right time of year to get the results you're looking for. Lastly, I'd either place it in front of the window, or get some grow lights if you want to keep it looking good....See MoreJake Penny II
