Lighting for the island
Comments (15)Thanks all for the responses. It's a two story house; above kitchen is attic area so easily accessible. I've gotten pretty good at drywall patching but I do take your point about cutting out a section and just patching once. Finishing the ceiling -- I was just thinking, paint? Almost hesitate to ask other suggestions.... Here is a new shot with some photoshopping. Lascatx, I've omitted the can in the front of the island but don't want to add another to the right side (to match one on left). I am not sure whether I would prefer the lights to run the width of the island, or the length. Thoughts? Again, functionally, there is already so much light in this kitchen, I don't really need light in particular areas. I will have separate light (track spotlight, hidden in skylight) lighting prep sink area. bob_cville -- thanks very much for the pancake box suggestion. Helpful to know. This light fixture is one which boxer had posted; it's 28'' H x 14'' W. I also like this fixture: Other ideas for lights?...See MoreOverhead task lighting help
Comments (4)That does seem like a viable option. Would a single pendant be sufficient? If the sink is the dark spot, I think it would. If it is that whole end of the island would you consider a track or monorail system. It could run on one side of the sunlight, or all around the perimeter. Different heads in different spots for task lighting, or to create an ambient up light too. I am pretty sure with tech, the box can have 2 switches, so you can turn on just the task lights, just the ambient lights, or both....See MoreOne light or two
Comments (0)I was wondering whether you think I should have one 6 inch can or two 4 inch cans to highlight my mantle style hood. The vent will be 42 so I think the entire exterior will be roughly 48. I do want more of a soft wash down on the wood so I am leaning toward the single 6 inch. If you have any pics to share, I'd love to see what you have done....See MoreHELP! Comments (13)So - I posted this over in Kitchens - and the advice over there is to do nothing over the island and 3 pendants on the peninsula. I thought about this for a moment - and guess what? We almost never turned on that island light. The recessed above were always enough. It was more like that light was for decoration than anything. Now I'm leaning toward nothing over the island. Maybe add a couple more cans - but that's it. Also - I think it may look better - since my hood wall will be a huge statement - with cabinets removed, chimney hood and tile up to ceiling. Having a clear view when you enter the kitchen might be better....See MoreRL Relocation LLC
