Hardwiring 2 plug-in pendants to former ceiling fan/light fixture
Comments (6)You should be able to. There are track adaptors which will take a basic cord for a pendant or a plug in. I've linked to the plug in version. Look for EP 814. If you go to the next page, the EP 815 can work as well. You'll just have to cut the actual plug off and wire your fixture directly into the 815. This one is nice since there's a ring to support the weight of the fixture. I don't know if your light has a support cable or not. You obviously don't want it hanging just from the plug with no support. Here is a link that might be useful: Plug in track adaptor...See MoreCrunch time: Vaulted ceiling fan and light fixtures
Comments (28)Thanks for weighing in, all! I was trying to find a fan that worked (matched) with the sconces, but it sounds like letting the fans blend into the ceiling is a better way to go. The Victorian style light might be a hangover from the previous owners, since that was more the direction they were taking this house when they replaced things. The house has a few victorianesque details, but when I look up true (heavy, dark) Victorian, it's too oppressive for me. I'll double check, but DH seemed to think maybe the sconces and table lamps would give us enough light. If that's so, then we wouldn't need the light kits at all. I would appreciate the simplicity of that visually! (Unless I can't see to appreciate it 'cause it's too dark in here, LOL.) I'll be heading to the stores around 10 a.m E.S.T. today. If you have any last words of wisdom to send me off with, please do so. : )...See Morehandyman rate to change ceiling fan, light fixtures, door, toilet?
Comments (6)If I'm interpreting what you say right -- that you want to replace a chandelier with a ceiling fan -- you don't really need an electrician for that. Just keep an eye on things and make sure your handyperson replaces the standard ceiling box with a fan-rated one. You could use an electrician for that specific task anyway, if you want to make sure. If you actually mean you want the chandelier changed to a light fixture and a ceiling fan added, then yes, you should hire an electrician for that. The other electrical work amounts to just changing one light fixture for another. Having wiring work done by an unlicensed handyman is kind of dubious, I'll admit, but you know what? Changing a light fixture just isn't that complicated. All you need is normal intelligence, a moderate amount of experience, and a decent work ethic. Check with your neighbors, friends, and coworkers for references. In fact you could probably swap out the lights yourself, as long as you shut off the power first (not just at the wall switch), take photos of everything as you disassemble the old fixture, and work carefully with an eye to the photos as you install the new one. If you run into any hitches, you can come back here or visit the GW electrical wiring forum, and we'll help you out....See MoreConverting bathroom ceiling light/fan to just a light fixture.
Comments (13)I Agree with Chispa, placing a semi-flush at the center of the powder room will give you a great amount of light. These are some good options. the warda semi-flush comes in four finishes and three sizes https://www.douniahome.com/collections/semi-flush-mount-ceiling-lights this is also a nice geometric option it comes in four finishes and three sizes https://www.douniahome.com/collections/semi-flush-mount-ceiling-lights/products/ula-semi-flush-mount-light...See MoreRelated Professionals
