getting 80 loads out of Charlie's Soap
Comments (35)When mc was having the sudsing problems with the Whirlpool Duet I had suspected it may have been the detergent. I went out and purchased some Tide HE liquid. Upon using it I had the same trouble as mc with oversudsing and the suds not rinsing out. Out of curiosity, I sent Tide an email explaining my problem in detail. I explained that I had purchased Tide HE liquid for my Frigidaire Affinity. Specifically told them the type of machine too. I informed them about the excessive suds, the poor rinsibility, the stiffness and the fact I can not use fabric softener due to having small children and the effects it would have on the flame retardent on their clothes. I explained that due to the liquid formulas concentration, I was unable to cut the amount of liquid used back to a safe level. I even informed them that I had seen others mention similiar problems on the net. I was very nice in my email and this was the response I got. Mon, 9 Jun 2008 09:29:26 -0400 (EDT) "P&G Consumer Relations" cleanclothes@custhelp.com Thanks for contacting P&G. [Incident: 080608-001294] I'm sorry you experienced oversudsing while using our detergent. There are a few situations that can cause this. They include: -- Using too much detergent for the amount of soil in each load. -- Water hardness level. Less detergent can be used in soft water. -- Do you use cold water for most wash loads? You might be experiencing buildup of detergent and mineral deposits in the outside tub of your washer. This can happen when cold water is consistently used for washing. Here's how you can fix that: add 1/2 gallon of white vinegar to a full tub of hot water. Run the washer through a complete cycle without clothing. If this resolves the problem you may want to repeat the process every 6 months. -- Overloading the washer can be a cause. Suds can become trapped in clothing if there's not enough room for them to circulate freely. -- Using regular detergent in a high efficiency washer. If you have one of the new HE washers, make sure you're using HE detergent, like Tide HE. A final word, it isn't unusual to see suds in the sink when the rinse water drains. The force of the water coming from your washer can generate suds as the tub empties. Since I'm not able to help the way I'd like via email, I'm following up via postal mail. You should hear from me in 7-10 days. Thanks for taking the time to write. Debi Tide Team [---001:001084:47166---] As you can see per the response they did not read my email to them in it's entirety as I had told them I was using the Tide HE liquid. They also totally neglected the fact that the suds were not rinsing out completely aka still seeing suds in the washer, not the rinse water. I also as of yet have not gotten this secondary contact she refered to. To be honest, I really didn't care one way or the other. I just wanted to see what they would say....See MoreDo I have to use Charlie's Soap with every load?
Comments (17)You do what is right for you. I'm a CS fan myself, but what works for me may not work for someone else. On top of that, when I switched to CS I still had other detergent here I was trying. I'm not about to let the other stuff I had prior to the CS go to waste no matter how much I like the CS. To do so would be wasteful. I just figured out a way to incorporate different things into different loads and use the CS exclusively on my lil ones clothing and the hubs uniforms right now. When I first got my HE washer, I got some Cheer HE to try it since the HE's were suppose to rinse better I figured the scent may not hurt. Everything seemed to be okay for a while. Then I got some Tide Free HE to help another poster as they were having a suds prob and wanted to see if it was the detergent. Found out it was as that stuff sudses a lot in certain machines. Then I got some ALL FC HE to see if that would do the same thing. It didn't suds as much and rinsed out much better, but it didn't get all the stains out either. Now to use them up, I use the Tide Free HE on my and my hubs clothing because I can use an unscented fabric softener to cut the suds. I put a cap of the Cheer into a spray bottle with water to use as a pretreater on our clothes as the Tide washes out the Cheers perfume. I use the All FC on all of our bedding as they do not get stained. Like I said earlier, I use the CS on my lil ones clothes and hubs uniforms. As I use up all of my old detergent, other things will get switched to the CS. CS was just the over all right thing for me as: I can't use scented things on mine and my kids clothing for very long, I can't use fabric softener on my kids clothing, Tide Free HE was leaving behind too many suds because of the way my washer works (very little water) and cutting it back too much didn't get my clothes clean, and the All FC wasn't getting all of the muck out of the kids clothes. As you can see, I have special needs for a detergent anyway. CS just fit the bill in my situation. On top of that, CS does work slower than many commercial detergents so pretreating and presoaking are definitely a requirement here for me, but I use to do that before anyway so it wasn't that much of a switch. I can see where many would not like the CS for that reason alone and do not begrudge them for it. Also, the CS does have to be orderd online as it is not carried in many stores in many areas. Depending on where you live, it may very well be more expensive than what a person could find at the store. For me the CS happens to work out cheaper per load even with the multi purpose pretreater. I'm a big advocate of finding what thing or things work for you. If you want to use more than the Charies go right ahead. You have to do what is right for you. There is nothing wrong with that. You may end up not liking the CS at all, so it would be good to have other things on hand. If that ends up being the case, use up the CS by cleaning out your machine with it occasionally or mopping your floors with a little or whatever you can think of. At least, in the long run, you will be happy with the results of whatever you do and that is what matters the most. : D...See MoreQOTD-What has changed your fabric buying habits
Comments (13)When I first started quilting in the late 1990's I kept hearing people say I needed to build a stash. So .... I was doing mostly applique and it wasn't so bad to buy a few fat quarters, but then I as most, if not all, quilters started seeing patterns I wanted to make and bought fabric to make those quilts. Now, I have a stash of fabric for quilts I'll probably never make and some of that fabric I wonder why I bought -- I don't like it any more. If I had do-overs, I would buy fabric for the quilt I intend to make and finish before I bought more fabric. But since that is not the case, I'm trying to use up what I have. I'm told you can put that ugly fabric in a scrap quilt and not notice it. So, my purchasing trend is to buy any backing fabric I need and batting. When I do purchase fabric I buy at a fabric shop -- Moda is my favorite....See MoreFront load vs. top load washers
Comments (33)Speaking of how much I like the front loader - one of the things I really like about it is that I can wash rugs in it - not the flimsy ones but the ones with stiff backing. They say professional rug cleaning but some of the ones I have are so inexpensive it's not worth the price of professional cleaning. So I tried washing one in the FL once - figured if it fell apart I'd throw it away. It turned out great. So today I washed two rugs I've had in my kitchen for a long time. They're brown oriental type rugs so they hide dirt but they were grungy so I thought I'd wash them. A really weird thing happened. These rugs were (I thought) exactly the same. At least they looked exactly the same before I washed them. One came out beautifully - looks like new. The other one looks entirely different - the colors and pattern are kind of muddy and muted - kind of yucky looking. It almost seems like one was synthetic and one might have been wool - the one that doesn't look very good. So I put the good looking one back in the kitchen and the yucky looking one is in my laundry room. It doesn't look so bad by itself but looks terrible next to the good one. Anyway, FL works great for washing the rugs but you take your chances on whether the rugs are really washable or not. By the way, my normal cycle is 45 mins but there are cycles as short as 30 mins. Drying is fast since the washer spins things so dry....See Morevinmarks
