Remodeling Design Dilemma Kitchens

Need help with kitchen backsplash!

Were stuck with dark greyish vinyl floors, and chose colors from there. under the countertops gets tarrytown green (the dark green in the pic) and wall cabinets plus pantry gets moonbeam (the paint on the left). countertop is alexandrite which my wife and i love. We just cant agree on a backsplash to save our lives though Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Below are the renderings of the kitchen, though the floors in the renderings are not as grey as they are in real life.

Beautiful choices thus far. A common recommendation I see on here - and verified in my own experience - is to wait until the other elements (floor, cabinets, counters) are installed before you pick your backsplash. You probably feel like you need to make these choices all in advance, but anything you pick for your backsplash will look slightly different depending on your lighting (including windows) and other finishes in your actual space.

The top end choice would be to use a beautifully figured piece of alexandrite slab as the backsplash and focal point. It depends on your layout and sight lines. Whether the alexandrite is polished or honed and lighting come into play. Tile choices require taking your component samples to some tile stores and seeing what you like. Patterns like subway, herringbone, stacked, chevron, etc. depend on your interior decor style. Get samples to compare in your home lighting. And compare grout. Urethane and epoxy grout resist staining for lighter colors. Post pictures of the options for feedback.

I also agree that you are limiting yourself somewhat needlessly. There are lots of options, but I understand if you are not comfortable with a lot of them. How about something like this Jasper blue/gray subway? I think that would look really nice while adding a hint of color, but is still understated. :) Link

That's a schluter edge. Nice they did that...but they sure did a messy job. Same thing happened with my back splash. They tried to "clean it up" which helped some, but still doesn't look professional. I would have the gc look at it. Ask him "does this look like the kind of work you expect to see in a (whatever price) custom home? If I review you on Houzz you want me to post these pictures?" That should get you some kind of answer... Good luck!

nosoccermom, Yes those tiles were the ones we had actually looked at already. We definitely need a new floor, the old one has been really beaten up and in fact was only glued around the edges, and it's coming up around the wall in some parts, and overall looks dingy. We weren't sure how the color would fit in with the kitchen however. The interior designer recommended something called "grey washed" is what I have written down. I like the appeal of the luxury vinyl, they aren't cold tile, easy to install, and the grout is actually a better version than regular tile group in that it's not porous.

It looks to be 17" Ceramic tile would be nice but I think it has to be an actual color from the granite to tie in. Daltile Semi Gloss or Matte have a few neutrals and Daltile Natural Hues has a few more neutrals, but the Natural Hues line is more expensive.

The actual kitchen doesn't exist. They're about to install the cabinets next week, but for now it's just a big open space.
