Thanks Madeline616, the mushroom finish is kind of a cool tone so greige looking to me (especially with no lights on). I'm leaning now towards a pale greenish or blueish grey Penny tile just to keep things simple versus the 6th Ave tile... What do you think? Here is a link that might be useful:

Nice kitchen. It appears that you have dark elemnts in the cabinets and the granite. What is the granite? It looks like brown and cream? If so, I would go with a cream color tile for the backsplash. Are there other colors in the granite that are hard to dectect on our monitors? A paint in the yellow family would look nice. I would go deeper though. We have BM Powell Buff. A gold toned paint with slight green undertone. (My granite is dark giallo ornamental, so lots of deep brown.)There are many favorites and I am sure everyone will offer suggestions.

Prices are pretty reasonable. What about that milk green color? will it work? maybe with some garnet pieces sparingly mixed in. you know, in cases of such strong concept I'd commit fully. but in a way that won't fight with your countertops of course so shapes as Jamie suggested but I'd go with more rounded, like in first example or maybe smth like this with French flavor you might say..just a bit of textural interest, just a bit of additional decorations, and colors work in a pleasing way http://walkerzanger.com/collections/products.php?view=mat&mat=Ceramic%20and%20Terracotta&coll=Tuileries (I'm looking at Madeliene decorative field in Pastis, but one of course should try samples in his own room and light to get the idea of real color and whether it works. )
