Oh good. I usually ask what colors have been tried before I toss out suggestions. Because I have made suggestions just like the above, i.e. "I think it might be perfect", only to have the op come back and say that they had tried the color I suggested and disliked it the most! lol! But I didn't this time because I liked Galveston for you as soon as I saw it. Fingers crossed it works out!!

Thanks for the responses! Funcolors, you're amazing--we have a pantry painted in Shaker Beige because I thought I might want to use it for the LR and DR, but it turned out to look a bit too dark. When I put the camel curtains next to it, though, they look beautiful together! I'm not sure if I can convince DH to use Shaker Beige in the bedroom because he's convinced it's too dark. I'm sure it will look different in a lighter room, though. Maybe I'll try a swatch...(after we've finished stripping the blasted wallpaper). The Quincy Tan is very nice, indecisive101, but it's darker than Shaker Beige, so I don't think that will fly with DH. Thanks!

Nylon is not colorfast and can stain. Olefin is made from polyolefin or polypropylene. From wikipedia: "The fibers have low moisture absorption, but they can wick moisture and dry quickly. Olefin is abrasion, stain, sunlight, fire, and chemical resistant. It does not dye well, but has the advantage of being colorfast. Since Olefin has a low melting point, textiles can be thermally bonded. The fibers have the lowest static of all manufactured fibers and a medium luster. One of the most important properties of olefin is its strength. It keeps its strength in wet or dry conditions and is very resilient. " It can be cleaned with mineral spirits or dilute bleach. It is used for indoor/outdoor carpet because of it's durability. The problem with olefin is that it crushes. So if you buy it, get it in a dense pile or a low level loop. I've had olefin in my houses for years and the only one I had trouble with was the berber as it was light colored and with the crushing the traffic pattern was very apparent. Also, due to the low melt point, DH managed to melt part of the rug by putting a hot drop light on it. (If there's a way to destroy something, he'll find it!) I got rid of my nylon rug due to permanent stains it had (cat barfing up cat food...combination of food color with stomach acids caused awful color changes...we had the rug redyed by a professional, but that covered the spots only for a year or so.)

Yes, all excellent suggestions! Kat--your trim looks fabulous, I wouldn't be able to tell, probably even if I was looking for it. You (and your carpenters) did a fantastic job. I also take comfort in the fact that, as you said, once there's a nice backsplash (yet to be chosen), counters and light fixtures, might not be as big of a deal. Buehl--No, you are right. I am concerned with everywhere, including over the cabinets, but the problem with the light board is that the sink area is intended to be a focal point in the room. So, I think the issue is most noticible there. Also--your trim idea is a GREAT one that I will file away for my next project (if there ever is one). Right now they are removing the moulding and doing a mock-up of lowering the light board. If that looks OK, I'm not quite as concerned about the variation from one side to the other. My thought process is, unless you looked quickly from one side to the next and back again, you might not necessarily notice the difference. Also, good eye buehl! In addition to the variation in overall height, there is a dip in the middle. I LOVE my ceiling. :) Thanks everybody.
