plant colors for a red brick ranch
Comments (25)Some good things to think about. You're both making sense and possibly even getting through to me. So this fall/spring I'll split all the fescue again and really try to get a solid border and maybe a bit of mass. I might come out with the left end of the border some more. I wish I could say I like the idea of white but it's my least favorite color out front. There's already white trim and white porch railings and the neighbor has plenty of white vinyl fencing.... I feel like it's pointless to add white flowers (I actually dug up and removed a clump of 'becky' that was out there). The yellow accents and blue might work out, but my wife just informed me she doesn't like the yellow :( So I've been messing around in paint and it seems just about everything has to go, even my beloved 'tiger eyes' sumac. There is a variegated red twig dogwood behind the sumac, but the red twigs always seemed pointless in front of the red house.... but maybe I'll take another look at it for the white variegation, that can be my my 'test white' in the area. I may split the catmint and get another bunch or two of that going. I think I'm still going to stand by the color guard yucca (spiky yellow to the right), I divided a piece of this spring and it's near the blue spruce, just too small to notice. It my make for a nice spot of yellow and not obvious enough for my wife to complain about. And I should really cut the evergreen down. I think it's a Chamaecyparis, it's not a juniper. Sounds like a plan? I'll try to update but it may be a while. Hopefully this time things will begin to look a little better :)...See MoreNeeding Ideas for updating 1950's orange brick ranch on a budget
Comments (1)Please don't paint your brick. It's a great color. What your home needs is landscaping and a few minor improvements like painting the front door an accent color and paint the garage doors a color to blend in with the brick. If you paint the front door with a good accent color, it will come out of the shadows and be more welcoming. Your pics aren't expanding so I can't see if you have a coach light by the front door or see your address at all. These small things are inexpensive but important....See MoreHelp with exterior update for 70s orange/brown brick ranch.
Comments (21)the gutters would look so much better in a copper color, especially w/that Jade color. anyway you can get them painted (or don't know if you're getting new ones) you could do the bronze/copper, or a brighter copper, address numbers and copper window boxes (You can order copper sheeting and make these yourself. or just paint a copper color. but the real stuff patinas w/time. I have a roll of super thin real copper. it's not difficult to work with) for the front door, I'd do the jade color, or even a lighter jade. If you don't want green on the trim, How about one of these Bronze colors? for the garage door I think any of the 3 would look nice some other color palettes...See MoreHELP: MCM red brick ranch color ideas
Comments (11)The existing dark bronze color of the siding is already a color often recommended for combining with red brick. Note that what you have already leans ever so slightly green (or so it looks on my computer) but in a very muted way so there is some contrast between brick and siding (green and red opposite on color wheel), but not so much to call attention to itself. I like it!!! However I think siding color should be considered in relation to roof color - since metal roof colors are so limited. What are you thinking for that? Perhaps a similar bronze or greige for the roof....Ive seen some which are more metallic in appearance vs. flat color. And then siding color simply becomes something that is different from roof color but closely related (ie darker, lighter, more grayed, or less grayed). I agree with the above posters that it is a beautiful house in a beautiful setting and it is that deck that could use some attention. Use deck structure (if sound) but maybe replace wood handrail with wire or glass as suggested above - the idea is to lessen the obstruction to the view....See More
