What colour should I paint my front door?
I hate the colour of my home and am thinking about painting the front door as it would be much cheaper than paitning the entire exterior. which colour would you do for the front door to add some curb appeal? Or should i leave it white? The siding is a brown colour.

Comments (38)Your house looks more craftsman than country. Especially the design on the windows in the door and sidelights. That said, if the doors and sidelights are wood, I’d rather see the paint stripped and just stain the door a nice medium to dark stain. If they are not wood and need to be painted, I’d go with an olive green, but I actually like the yellow they are now and you could even go more into a mustard. The trim should not be painted to match the door unless you also paint the trim around all the windows. The window trim currently matches the trim around the door, which looks fine IMO. I’d even say strip and stain the window trim if that’s what you do with the door. Just my two cents. Hope you find a solution that you LOVE! Comments (18)If you are going to widen the step-up, consider installing decking all the way across the porch level with the step. That would be fun. A little more maintenance, and you would have to see how it hits the bottom of the rails. You might be able to remove the rails, or if you like them, add rails to meet the step, then you may not have to widen it or install decking. (Posts likely need to stay.) Regarding deliveries, I have found that some delivery people rarely step all the way into the porch if they don’t have to. Think about where they typically leave packages near your door. You may not need to widen the step for them. Ha! Fedex just delivered a big box. They used the first 2 of the 4 steps up to my porch. Comments (18)Pool, I thought I’d love the navy, not sure why I don’t! I like it in Deco’s example. Maybe it’s just the mock-up — the lighting, door style, etc. Mock-ups can help somewhat, but of course aren’t exact. You made a lot of good points. Different colors really influence the personality of the house in different ways. My fav is the California Chamois, or something like it. It looks fantastic with the stoop and brings life to the house without being garish. I don’t love every color I posted, but just wanted to show a variety. I think shutters (especially white) would look awful on this house because the windows are different sizes and too close together for them to look right. Kathleen, if you decide on white for the door, you could bring in color with pots. Such a charming house. :) I hope you don’t paint the bricks. They bring personality and character. 2 years agoA teal/blue, terra cotta, or deeper blue would look great. Paint the garage door the color of the siding. The biggest bang for your buck would be to upgrade your landscape, tho! Think color, texture, various heights.

2 years agoI can see black or charcoal for the door, or maybe something like this. Agree with painting the garage door the same as the siding.

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoI would choose a slightly greyed true blue with no green in it. Paint the garage door a darker version of your siding. Trim the bushes down.
And I'd also paint some of the white trim above the door to match the siding, to keep the focus on the door area. Paint a big ceramic pot the same colour as your door and/or add some blue flowers. https://www.proflowers.com/blog/blue-flowers/

It's really cute and while I agree with others that you could make a larger impact painting the whole house, I also realize that's not always in the budget. In the meantime, I'd take a que from Beverly's rendering and leave everything as is except I'd paint the portion above the door white to match the door and garage. The light fixture above the mailbox looks a little small so you could add something a little bigger and contemporary. You could install it a little more to the right to help balance the space since the door is off centered in that strip of siding. I'm not sure what your bushes are but I'd try to trim up the one to the left of the front door and probably replace the one to the right with something a little smaller. Small boxwoods below that front bottom window would look very nice. Edge out your beds and add some mulch, power wash your front stoop and sidewalk and it will give you a fresh look for your home. Whatever you end up doing I hope you enjoy it.
