Need help picking white paint for small bathroom (details follow)
Comments (10)I also chose to do white paint (with white tile) in a new bathroom remodel. The bathroom is average sized, but has no windows. I think it's a personal preference as to what color (or lack of color) looks best. And it all depends on what "feeling" you want from the room. I think Sweeby is right that a deep paint color would be dramatic (and possibly cozy and warm, depending on the color) and have a very pleasant feeling. I wanted an open, crisp, clean feel and had no desire for cozy or warm. Though I'm not done with the remodel, so far I'm very pleased with the color. I'm not certain that I can give you specific colors to try, but I can tell you how I selected mine. I took every single white paint chip home from the store and sat down with the paint chips and my tile. I then sorted through the "definitely nots" (whites that had too much yellow, pink, blue, green, etc) and narrowed down to a few that I really liked. I then really held them up to the tile I'm using to see how the colors played off of each other. My concern was that I did not want the tile or the paint to look "dirty" due to an unflattering contrast. I ended up selecting Ralph Lauren "Grand" because I felt it best complimented the color of the tile. Unfortunately I don't think the color I selected fits your "clear but creamy". But I do highly recommend grabbing as many paint chips as you can and holding them against the materials you have selected until you find one that compliments the room....See Morehelp me pick a color for my master bathroom
Comments (4)First of all, I would consider using bathroom paint for the mold problem. A few years ago, I made a huge mistake by allowing the paint guy to put anti-mold stuff in the paint I had chosen for my bathroom. Turns out it is for outdoor use only. It had a heinous smell, and I had to paint over it several times just to mask it. I think it was about 5 years before the smell died down. So, don't let anyone talk you into that. Use real kitchen and bath paint! Next, I don't see any reason to paint over the green tiles. I'm not a huge green fan, but if they are ceramic tiles in good shape, then painting over them may not be an improvement. It seems to me that a sandy color or medium ivory color paint on the walls may do well....See MorePaint color for a small bathroom
Comments (9)I'm not familiar with those specific colors, but I agree with ccoombs. A small bathroom is a great excuse to use a fun or interesting color that doesn't necessarily "coordinate" with other colors in your house. I have a TINY powder room (if yours has a shower, it doesn't qualify as small in my book! mine is 3' x 5') and it is a lavender color right now, a color that has no relationship to any other colors on my first floor. Neighbors also have this same tiny bath, and one is cobalt blue, the other is a raspberry color, and both look great....See MoreVery small bathroom colors .......
Comments (21)Christy, either because I'm a congenital dunce, or I've lost brain cells painting all day (probably both), I couldn't come up with any pics when I searched "cburch". Did I do that right? Without seeing it...first off, I love the idea of the suede finish on the walls. I've never used it, but I like it a lot. Does it handle moisture and drips well, and is it scrubbable? I think I can picture your lay-out. I had a hall bath like that in a previous house. Hubby used the MBR bath, I used the one in the hall, and it was closest to the public spaces, so guests used it, too. I chose to paint it one or two (don't remember) "chips" lighter than the predominant color in our living room, so the house seem tied together for guests, etc. So, I like your idea of choosing either one of the other colors you've used, or one of the colors from a color card you've used. That feels cohesive, to me. It sounds like you have some really pretty colors in the house to work from. Of them...This is just my own opinion, but I would personally avoid the taupe family in a small room without windows. Taupe is beautiful in the right setting, but (again, JMO) can get muddy if natural light is low. The yellow/gold tones will be warm and cozy on dreary or cold (if you live in the North) winter mornings. That's nice, but remember they'll make the walls advance. Something related to the sage you've used elsewhere will make the walls recede, green being a cool color, so you may like that since the room seems small to you. Something sagey will also look nice with the silver/nickel tone fixtures you're thinking of and the off-white ceramics. I would just go lighter on the sage color card, rather than darker (again, only my personal preference). If you want something different, another family I think would go nicely with your yellow/gold/sages would be something in a terra cotta. But maybe, since you're having a hard time deciding, you would do better to approach this from the other direction. Pick out either a shower curtain first, one that makes you swoon, or towels and a bath rug in delicious colors, or pretty ceramic or pottery accessories that you just love. Take the paint cards with the colors that appear in your house and go shopping for one or more of those things first. Find something that works with the rest of your house palette. If you do it that way, you should then be able to find something among your house colors (or one or two steps up or down) that you'll just know is right. I know what you mean re not replacing the towel bars. First of all, once they have the towels on them, they don't show much, anyway. Plus...it's always a bear to find the studs ;-). Be sure to let us know what you decide! redbazel--Smiling sympathetically at your hubby's little "goof", which I think in this case turned out to be fortuitous. :-D I really like the "feel" of that bath; seems welcoming and cocoon-y, yet......See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
