I have no clue the brand of our luggage, but I do like it. It's soft side. We have two pieces like you have shown above; one smaller and one large. Most trips we can take the larger piece, a garment bag and a make-up/toiletry bag. Our luggage is black and I later bought a tapestry (animal print) type garment bag with two sizes of soft bags.

I have an Eagle Creek that has seen me through quite well. It fits in the overhead, is expandable, is expandable, and has just the right number of pockets. It’s probably 20 years old. Fine for a weekend, and for 3 weeks in Europe.

I recently bought DH a Briggs and Riley case for his computer.. He likes to travel light and likes that he can expand it to be an overnight bag, too, for short business trips. He is very, very pleased with the quality of it, and it has a lifetime guarantee. They make larger cases, too. Since then, I’ve heard a lot of good comments on Briggs and Riley.

I have a few Away luggage pieces - the Bigger Carry-On and the Everywhere Bag and find this combo serves the majority of my travel needs. I also bought their packing cubes and love those as well.

We scuba dive, so the luggage can be soft, nothing breakable inside...which is more expandable. We have Ricardo Luggage. Click to see. This is the exact set we have. Then a large LL Bean soft sided one for scuba gear. It's at least 15 years old....not a spinner. 😁I shop a LOT. I like expandable luggage.

My sister asked for high end luggage as a graduation present.....then worried someone would steal it off the luggage carousel. We wrap ours with a red strap....to identify it from other black luggage. We want people to NOT notice our luggage....leave it alone...not target it.

DH is a pilot Briggs and Riley is his choice. It has a lifetime warranty and I do believe Costco is offering special prices on some of their pieces.

DH bought me a Tumi suitcase for our anniversary. I took it to Hawaii and was thrilled with it. It is the smoothest rolling bag ever. It is a hard case. I will never use soft sided suitcases again--more than once the content of my old soft-sided suitcase arrived wet due to rainstorms at airports.

I love all the recommendations for Briggs & Riley-- I know they are great but also expensive. I might go that direction but they are a little more than i wanted to consider. I will definitely check out Costco.

I did see both Away and Eagle Creek get great reviews. I'll check them out as well as some of the other suggestions.

I have had Steamline luggage for about 7 years, and I got my girls the same kind for Christmas in 2020. It sparks joy, and, without fail, a lot of compliments.

But is has an issue, which is the wheels. The wheels are not as smooth as any of our other luggage, I think because they do not fully articulate. And i think that is for style reasons.

Which is to say, nothing spoils the vintage look more than 4 big wheels sticking out of the bottom. Steamline hides theirs, but that is at the cost of best-in-class functioning. Their luggage also does not come in uber sizes.

I decided to get an inexpensive piece of luggage for really long trips (eg we plan to go to Sri Lanka and the Maldives for 2022 holidays and may be gone 3 weeks). I wanted it to be huge, light weight, and wheels like a sportscar. I did not go for another "vintagey" piece because once I noticed how anachronistic the wheels on it looked, I can't unsee it. YMMV

I got this one from Bric's, but in 30" . It has not gone anywhere yet, but it scoots around my foyer like a demon, and weighs nothing. Bric's was my go to brand years ago, I think the quality is good. I also had T Anthony luggage for years. I did a *lot* of travel so have been through a fair amount of luggage

I will also say that Nordstrom rack, for some reason, always has deals on luggage. Some really pretty Ted Baker stuff. This go around, I actually ordered some Aquascutum luggage from them. I really liked it, and it seemed like great quality but I took it back because it had a low joy-spark for me. It has a Burberry vibe.

Lastly, I broke down and bought a cover for my new Bric's one. I hate to ruin the look w the cover, OTOH it is simply a must when you have to check luggage (and given the size of this one, that is its fate). It's not just scuffs, it is too often grease! I plan to put it on just before I check it and take it off and slip it in the pocket before I leave baggage claim.

DH has Tumi and I have Briggs and Riley - neither of which would fall in the lower price point category. DH and I both traveled a lot for work (by air) and needed luggage that could survive baggage handling. It has lasted practically forever and I've taken mine in a couple times for warranty repairs. It still looks pretty good but if you're going to check bags on a plane I wouldn't go for any kind of luggage you're hoping will hold up its appearance. I can't imagine any luggage that doesn't get scuffed if you use it.

The only thing I'd like that mine don't have is the spinner wheels - didn't make 'em that way back in the day. I do wonder about those breaking off though since they're not recessed/protected. If you were going to check one of those on a regular basis I'd think you'd need something of higher quality. I'd hate to get to my destination and find I no longer had a rolling bag.

Another Briggs and Riley fan here. I think the quality is excellent. Over the last few years I have replaced all my old luggage with Briggs and Riley pieces.

I have a set from Away: the carryon (smaller) and the medium checked. The first time I used it I had an issue with the lock not unlocking with the code, but it hasn't happened since and I've been pleased with it otherwise. Rolls smoothly and tolerant of being stuffed to the gills.

As a travelling family of 5, we own a ton of luggage. The boyz have junky luggage. Like DH picks things up at Costco, or something we buy at an airport because we need another piece to take home the stuff we bought.

Cheap though these may be, the wheels on all this new luggage are surprisingly good. We have never had a performance issue with the "man luggage."

I love the look of your Steamline luggage, Mtn.. but bad wheels are a deal breaker for me. I expect to have challenges navigating an airport as it is. I don't need to add to it.

I liked the Bric X-Bag -- but didn't love any of the colors. I am a pink girl but not for luggage. I would probably get the olive but wish it was a little lighter. Knowing it is zippy on wheels gives it extra points~

I will likely check a bag more often than not-- I don't pack as light as i should and in a large airport, i will do better to be hands free.

Funky your question got me reading about luggage. Some hard case luggage is made with locks instead of zippers (zippers can be broken into easier). TSA has a universal key that can open the lock. The locks make the piece heavier though. Just something to consider if better security is a need of yours.

Mtn mentioned NordstromRack -- and I have also found great prices there in the past. I didnt see anything to work for me this time around but i will check back. I am not in a rush.

I also just noted some great options at Saks Off Fifth as well-- big discounts on Tumi and Bric's as well as other brands ... in case someone else is looking too!

We have soft side Victorinox luggage and I love it. Lightweight but durable, and ours are a dark purple color so easier to find on the luggage carousel!

Away Biggr Carry-On for the 7 day cruise I just took. I am happy with all of them but the Away is by far the lightest weight bag I’ve ever used. I use packing cubes and it held a ton of stuff.

I have two Lucas bags, both from TJ Maxx. They are so lightweight. Softsided, which I like. I love packing cubes, too..

I have Lipault luggage in several sizes; sturdy, very lightweight, well priced (they have great sales), wonderful colors- I love it! It has held up perfectly without any issues.
It’s a French brand acquired by Samsonite a few years ago.

I do love my luggage-it's Lipault. I have three pieces. I used to have four, but gave the largest one to DD as it was too unwieldy for me. One of mine is black, and two are purple.

After years of carrying Briggs & Riley, I bought an inexpensive Lucas roll-aboard that came with a carryall that fit perfectly on top with the handle pocket. I loved it and after I wore out the wheels, I replaced it with another of the same brand. I kept the first one thinking that I would someday replace the bad wheels with rollerblade wheels...(like that will ever happen).

I just want to thank you all, again, for your input. I need to decide if i want to pay less and potentially replace it more frequently.. or spend a bit more and hope/expect it lasts

I have some time as my first trip has been pushed back (again) .. so i will haunt the sales and nordstrom rack, etc. see what i find. I do have specific color likes/dislikes which limits my options.

I bought a Delsey in Germany about nine years ago that was the same size and shape as the ones you pictured, just not as cute. It fell apart, literally, after two trips. I would not buy that brand again.

I’ve had very good luck with a french brand called Lipault. They come in a beautiful range of colors and are lightweight and hold an astonishing volume and are well priced but they aren’t sophisticated or stylish.

Came back to actually read the thread. i also have Victorinox luggage in kelly green, but mind is about twelve years old and is too heavy now compared to newer purchases. See there is another Lipault fan here. Although it is softsided it has never gotten wet. on a flight. Finally Finally, had to laugh at the ”man luggage” comment. DH buys cheap luggage that falls apart but that does not deter him!

Quick Question.. for those of you who love Lipault, where do you buy it? I am only finding a broad range of colors in the smaller sizes.

I am still leaning towards Bric or Briggs & Riley but just not loving the color options. They seem to be either very manly or very youthful.

Sorry, I shuuld have been more clear-- I was on their site but they only have the larger size pieces in 2 colors... not the full range of colors.

I like the pebble blue, camel and some of the other colors carried in Europe-- but not finding them here in the states.

I’ve gotten mine on the Lipault site. They used to have a blue-green color called Duck Blue, and I had a few pieces. Then they discontinued that color and I bought a few more on sale!
