Suggestions for Egg Slicer & Measuring Cup
Comments (6)Yet one more person who reaches for their glass Pyrex measuring cups. I was given a gift certificate to King Arthur Flour and purchased a 3-piece nesting set of Zyliss measuring cups/with lid, thinking how wonderful they would be - light-weight and how much less space they would take up, but was sooooo disappointed! You can't use them in the microwave and the red paint RUBS off just from nesting them together as well as use (I've never placed them in the dishwasher), so it was back to my 4-sizes of Pyrex measuring cups - the two largest ones were my mother's. I love my little OXO slant 1/4-cup measure and use it all the time. I had a 2-cup OXO slant measuring cup and the handle broke off soon after it was purchased, as well as the printing rubbing off. Can't help you with an egg slicer. I just use a knife. FYI - When it comes to dry measuring tools, there is no such thing as "accuracy" for measuring cups and spoons in the U.S. - especially if you purchase "novelty" measuring tools. There are NO standards set for the sizes of them. So if you think one set of measuring cups may hold more or less than another set you own, you're probably right. -Grainlady...See MorePoaching eggs, which method or gadget do you recommend?
Comments (33)I love poached eggs cooked about 4 min- a bit on the harder side. I use the silicon poachers because I'm an absolute failure at true poaching. My egg comes apart. DH likes poached eggs as well, but he's really irritated when a restaurant plops it in a little saucer and serves it unstrained and floating in water. Watery eggs, YUCK! I prefer the silicon poaching cups more than the metal, I don't really know why, I just do. However with only two of them ( at $10 each), it's a production when I want to make 4 eggs for the two of us! My mother loves soft boiled eggs and made them when I was growing up. The only way I can stomach them was with bits of buttered toast torn up and mixed into the larger side of the egg cup with the broken egg. If she had egg shears, I don't recall seeing them. Over the years she has collected a large number of egg cups. I wonder what I'll do with them when she breaks up the house...no one else in the family will eat them....See MoreTea Cup Easter Egg Topiary
Comments (4)The tin basket is finally finished except for the handle which I hope to finish today....been having this silly ear and sinus infections, and my eyes aren't working correctly...slowing my painting down some. I gave up on finding patterns for the rest of my eggs, so I ordered a book of borders from amazon, net price $4.17 and it is a fountain of patterns, so now I need to get busy! PS...Is that your lovely silver tea service? It is really gorgeous, with all of the reflections I can't see the pattern, but it is stunning with the rose patterned china. Comments (16)We have the Cuisinart (partnered with Keurig) and it takes the K cups. Ours has a very large water reservoir and a 3-year waranty, which are two of the reasons we got the Cuisinart. We love it! I buy the K cups at Bed, Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon or at Kohl's when they have a % off promotion. If you work the sales you can get the K cups for around 40 cents a cup. I won't pay regular price for them because they can be too expensive. I rarely buy them at the grocery store because they're too expensive even if they're on sale. I've used the "your choice" filter piece that comes with the unit, where you use your own coffee and it's okay but not as good as the K cups...somehow it loses something in the translation LOL. I like the Donut Shop coffee from the Coffee People for breakfast and the darker roasts like Newman's Own, Emeril's Big Easy Bold or Green Mountain French Roast when I want a little more kick. We have the Pumpkin Spice and Hazelnut for when we want a flavored coffee. We thought the Pumpkin Spice would be nice at Thanksgiving. I'm not familiar with the industrial makers. Did you buy it through a commercial restaurant distributor?...See MoreJilly
