Comments (58)Brad...did the cuttings have buds when I sent them? I don't recall seeing any, but I was so nervous trying to select decent cuttings, my mind was racing..lol. Last night I had to go to the store to buy sweet potatoes. We're having Thanksgiving dinner at my sisters; I'm in charge of Yams/Sweet Potatoes..Whatever the difference is. Anyway, before coming home, I decided to stop at four stores in seach of a variegated TC/CC. lol. Usually, TC's are availabe before Thanksgiving, but turns out, 3 out of 4 stores haven't ordered them yet. Only Jewel's, our grocery store had a few, all the same color, and no variegated. I spoke to one manager, (hardware store) asking if they ever have variegated TC's. She never heard of variegated, but suggested I phone the woman in charge of ordering, Friday. I don't expect a variegated to suddenly appear, but one never knows. It's worth a try. Cream and white are very pretty, but yellow and green are the best.. Toni...See MoreTGIF Happy Easter!
Comments (18)Happy Easter and Happy Spring! Last night we saw my cousin's son's girlfriend sing Miss Donnithornes's Maggot, along with another vocalist doing Eight Songs for a Mad King. I have never been a fan of atonal music but she performed it flawlessly, as far as Max and I could tell. Both of them are masters students in opera at CU. In a few weeks they are both singing in The Cunning Little Vixen which will be a lot more fun to see. Today we spent most of the time doing last minute shopping and coloring and decorating eggs. We will be fifteen for dinner at our DIL's brother's house. I have most of my prep work done. And now, after a wonderful 55° sunny day - it's SNOOOOWING! Tomorrow will be cool, around 50° but we have the low 70's forecast for most of the week. Sharon, I hope you all huddle together and stay warm. We have a lot of 24/7 heating and plumbing services - of course you pay dearly for off hours service. Duane, I'll bet your house is doggie heaven and that you have a great time with them. We take our dog to a bed and breakfast (and dinner too but it's just called a B & B) and he loves it. They have up to six dogs at a time, the owner is wonderful and sooo good with dogs. We have often come to pick up our dog to see all her charges, who may never have met before, sitting in a semicircle around her waiting for individual praise or treats. The dogs have more freedom than they would in our house, but our dog knows there are rules here and rules there and he doen't confuse the two. Katie, we have never missed a year coloring eggs, even when there are only the two of us for Easter. Happy Easter everyone. Lee...See MoreEaster
Comments (30)Sissy, any of the recipes that I mentioned came from someone specific are posted here somewhere. I have to tell you, though, that the search is impossible. It's easier to just ask for specific recipes and most of us don't mind posting them again. So, here is the recipe for Sol's honey rolls, they are sweet and light and yeasty and the grandkids eat them without anything on them at all, not even butter. Yes, they are that good. Honey Rolls 1 cup milk 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup butter [1 stick] 2 teaspoos salt 1-2 tablespoons granulated sugar* 2 pkges. dry yeast 1/2 cup warm water [110º-115ºF] 2 large eggs, lightly beaten 6 - 6 1/2 cups AP flour Heat the milk, add butter and salt. Set aside while butter melts. Stir in the honey. In another bowl, combine the warm water, yeast and sugar. Let it sit until yeast is completely dissolved, about 6-7 minutes. Combine milk mixture with yeast mixture. And stir in the beaten eggs. Beat in 4 cups flour. Add enough remaining flour to make a soft, but not sticky dough. Place dough in greased bowl, turning to coat both sides. Cover and allow dough to rise 1 hour. Punch dough down, and allow to rise another hour. Punch down again, and shape dough into rolls. Let it rise again 45 minutes to an hour or until doubled in volume. Preheat your oven to 375ºF and bake rolls for 25 minutes or until a deep golden brown. For a very soft crust, brush rolls with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven. Note: You could omit the sugar from this recipe altogether. I sometimes use about a teaspoon of the honey called for in the recipe to feed the yeast instead of the sugar. I also have to admit that I don't follow the directions exactly, I put all the wet stuff into my bread machine, add the dry stuff and let it finish on the "dough" setting. Then I roll it out, cut it into rolls and let rise, then bake. I've done it both ways and they both turn out about the same, so choose your technique, they both work! Comments (17)Hey ladies....glad you all had a nice Easter with kids and grands. It snowed this year so no egg hunt for us. Everyone just kinda did their own thing after lunch. Some of us played cards, others watched movies, played video games, napped or went to visit other families. Luvs~ Since 2 of my older kids "know" they request certain things in their baskets. They don't want a bunch of different candies, they'd rather have one big bag of a certain candy bar or a big bag of chips, etc. So it gets a little difficult to remember who asked for what, but it all worked out. The one thing the bunny forgot in the 5 yr olds basket was fishy crackers (the girl is addicted). I told her he must have dropped them out when he was hopping to our house. She said he should really be more careful, but was ok after that. ha They got one movie...Chipmunks the squeakquel. The Easter Bunny always comes to our house Friday night, they get their baskets Sat, we have our family easter get together Sat, then church on Sunday. Don't like the kids having to be hyped up on sugar at church so that's the way we've always done it. ha We being Southern have a ton of food for Sat lunch. Grandma is in charge of the Easter Egg hunt. She puts money (change and $1s) and candy in plastic eggs and hides them. She does a kid hunt and an adult hunt. (The adult eggs have bigger bills). Ensures everyone joins in the fun. ha Gotta go make lunch for the child. Trying to find a new project to work on. My 3rd child is turning 10 on Monday and will be having a sleepover on Friday and then we have a party for my Aunts b-day on Sat so don't know if I'll get to paint this weekend. We shall see. ~Anj...See MoreIslay Corbel
