cost of towel hook in frameless shower glass

We're finishing a remodel and wanted to have a towel hook installed in the frameless shower glass (not the door, but the glass panel next to the door). Does anyone have a rough idea what this should cost? Just trying to get a ballpark idea if it's 10's of dollars, $200, etc.

If the panel is already in place, forget it as the glass is required to be Tempered and Tempered Glass cannot be drilled or modified once Tempered.

Panel has not been ordered. We are about to order the glass and was curious what to expect that “upgrade” should cost so I know if we are in the right ballpark.

Jewel654 - I'm not certain the model of our tub filler but it is Moen. When we updated the master bath we decided not to change the tile (housing market didn't justify the added expense) and because tile has been installed against the tub access panel we could not change the faucet. So, we ordered new handles and spout to fit the existing filler. Our glass installer HIGHLY recommended the U-channel since we did not have a groove for the glass. We selected 1/2 inch glass for its' additional heft which added to his strong recommendation. Also note the small corner piece to secure the corner at the very top. In our opinion it doesn't spoil the look. No leaks. Good luck with your remodel.

"Frameless" shower doors are a highly unregulated product. By code shower doors only need to have 3 things to meet code. Be safety glass, door has clear opening of 22" and that the door open out allowing a 22" clear opening. A lot of contractors do what ever the customer wants regardless if it is safe or not and still meet code. The International Code Council had been trying to improve the way these doors are installed. Definitely do it! Ours normally holds a face towel that goes on the floor in front of the shower door over the bath rug to keep it from getting too wet. It goes on the floor and the shower towel goes on the hook when you enter the shower. I only need to open the door 4" to grab the towel then close the door so I can dry off in the heat of the shower. The hole for the hook is a standard 1/2". You can change the style of the hook at any time if you don't like the CRL ones. The standard hole is 1/2". Those suction ones don't always stay up for extended periods and look like crap. You can use a Command Hook for wet places, but it looks icky from inside. Do the hole! -Babka

Towel bar attached through glass = 1/2 inch. Be very diligent about proper structural framing on the walls on which the hinges attach, people tend to use any "bar / handle" (even on glass doors) as a grab bar.

If it is an upgrade the cost could be anything with a change order fee. A hole drilled in the glass will probably charged at $25 or so.

This is a local, simple question. Call the glass company that is furnishing and installing your enclosure. What their tempering plant charges might be different than the tempering plant in another region.

Another consideration should be having the towel bar and towel on the glass… may make cleaning it less convenient…the glass may need a wipe after each use
