Help Help please with a new area rug to go with my Thibaut WP?
I have been looking for an area rug for my DR for over a year and even sent a couple back. I just cannot nail the right one and maybe I am trying too hard and I should just go plain neutral jute or seagrass.
Is the rule is to stay solid if you have a busy wallpaper? I am so not good with mixing pattern
I was wanting fun or just a bit a color in this room - so I am open to opinions on both sides. I have this dining room and next to it I have this wall paper in my foryer - they are open to each other so I want to do something complimentary. My entire house is pretty open.
My thought was to try and do blue and white. But should I go funky, traditional, overdyed, vintage. I would love to see what some of you think because I have over thought it.
The dining chairs are being replaced with off white fabric chairs by Hooker. The ones in white shown are a few I painted the chair and fabric lol - but they are a little stiff but look pretty good since they were old and brown.
The rug is too small but just a filler so my floors don't get scratched.

Also the foyer shows blue paint under chair rail but I painted din white to brighten up the area,
If all else fails I will go back to a natural rug.

Comments (10)I've been looking at some other rugs - all styles. I do not mind a rug that is a little more traditional - I think DH prefers something a little more contemporary - but not too much so. So now I am confused... we are on a budget - big time.. so trying to find reasonably priced rugs that don't look cheap. Thats why I was looking at JCP. The above "patchwork" like rug will be around 20 shipped. So I am using that as a guideline. Was looking at a rug link from another post and found a bunch of 5x8 on clearance that are a bit more traditional but couln't find anything in 8x10 for the large part of the room. I don;t think I can mic these more traditional with the one above.. here is what I found that I liked - do you have any other suggestions as to what might work.. Please help!! Comments (26)I love the clean, uncluttered look of your home and you've made some great furniture choices. My first thought, though, is that I would try to rework the sofa/sectional placement. It really is unwelcoming looking to me to have the back where it is facing a wall, when it could be oriented to look into the room and out the windows. It seems like if it were placed in the corner under the stairs that it would feel open and invite you to come in and sit. I'd hate to be cooking in the kitchen and have the family or guests with their backs to me. If you are having a TV in another room close by, do you need one in that room, too? If, so placing a 70" unit will probably only work as you have it. But, to me, it's not going to look like a living room but more like a movie theater, which is fine if that's what you're going for. It seems like it won't be a cozy conversation area, though. I might actually flip the rooms and put the dining room where you have the sofa now. I was looking at lights used with dining rooms and ghost chairs and saw this, maybe would work in the living room? Kind of fun. don't know if it would look as good without the colored walls though. Comments (26)This is a pretty room with too much Hobby Lobby decor. You've got vases of sticks in display niches. Reminds me of a hotel lobby. Find something you love and want to look at every day to put there. I chose a couple of ethnic artifacts, but it could be art glass, or antique pieces. I have been playing with the RugsDirect site and placing rugs in the room and downloading - I will see if I can place them here and maybe folks will vote on them. I like all of yours - what site? Maybe I can place it in the room. Here are a few I have done. I would love for anyone to pick their top 2. I couple of them may seem like I am jumping off a cliff with that green and white vinyl check but it was fun. Just trying to gain some direction and input. I realize we all have different tastes. I could not find the animal print I was looking for but gave a couple a try.
