Exterior paint ideas desperately needed for cottage
Comments (28)Thank you all for the comments and ideas. After seeing the pics that lukkirish posted, my idea of going redwood-ish is disappearing. I really like that green (3rd pic) with the white trim. Or the yellow. What to do??? Bonnie_ann are you near here? When I was a teen my parents had a cottage in the same community. Driving 'to the lake' was like leaving the state, it seemed sooo far. There was nothing out that way for miles. (The trip now takes us 45 minutes, going the long way.) At that time all the houses were strickly weekend cabins, now most are permanent residents. We are having an arborist out to check on the trees and educate us on the pros and cons of their location. People in this region of Florida are protective of their cypress trees. I am looking forward to napping on the screened porch while listening to the breeze through the cypress, a sound that really is different then most trees. (Sappy but true.) Thank you again, keep the suggestions coming. We have a few weeks before having to decide....See Morewhite shaker cabinets, wood beam accents, white quartz, appliances?
Comments (27)I would remove from the equation the idea of white appliances having an effect on resale. No one says "I love the house, but forget it, it has a white range!" What is key to this whole discussion and has not been addressed is how much are you willing to spend on your appliances. The solution to your dilemma would be to panel the dishwasher and the fridge, and the fridge must be a fully-integrated style to pull this off. This will be very expensive. For the range, there are some lovely white ranges out there by Bertazzoni, Bluestar, Smeg, Miele, Lacanche for example, but those tend to be much more expensive than the old-style type of white range. There was a recent thread where someone posted about a white Kitchenaid range that looked fresh and not old-style, and was not priced as high as the other names I've mentioned, so look into that. I have a panelled DW, stainless fridge, white range, and stainless hood. I love it. The range is so easy to clean compared to a stainless range. The pairing of the white range with the stainless hood looks clean and fresh. The DW panelling does not show water drips the way stainless does. I was not willing to pay the $9000+ for an integrated fridge, so I am fine with my stainless one. (I am "lusting" a little for the white Miele fridge that Miller pictured above). One last note - your mention of the wood beams worries me. I know it's not what you asked, but adding wood beams has the potential to look very nice or to look artificial, "faux". A lot depends on your ceiling height. Make sure you have thought this through....See MoreExterior paint 1970's stone facade accent and garage questions
Comments (5)Yes. Maybe medium gray on the roof. As for the paint, all the houses on my street that have been repainted recently are various shades of grey. I was hoping to not be exactly like everyone else which is why the shade of blue. We are in the western half of Washington state so generally mild weather with clouds but we don't have AC so maybe not such a dark roof. I agree gray would be the better choice though. (Although smoky summers might mean we need to consider getting AC.)...See MoreWhat exterior siding most resembles wooden planks painted white?
Comments (9)We used Everlast wood grain siding when we redid our old Colonial. We have several farm buildings and associated maintenance and didn’t want house painting added to the list. Most people think it is wood. Our restoration contractor was initially horrified when we suggested it, but once it was done he thought it looked great and said if he had known how good it looks he would have used it to redo his farmhouse....See Morenesgirlz
