flooring options for white shaker kitchen
Comments (19)I've decided to spend the $$ getting the hardwood extended into the kitchen. A company specializing in hardwood restoration should have no problem matching the wood. In our case they are "interlacing" so that new planks overlap with old planks to reduce the transition line. Although hardwood is not my first choice practicality-wise, I am going to live with it because I want that seamless look that brings our kitchen/dining/living into a unified space. If I was doing something other than hardwood, I would get a natural stone in compatible colours with my wood (maybe slate?) - or porcelain, done in some modern-looking way (maybe rectangular tiles, not 12"x12"). Cork would look good but too delicate as far as I'm concerned....See MoreLight granite recommendations for white shaker cabinets
Comments (19)Here is the Macaubus on my island. My kitchen is still being worked on. The perimeter counter is different. I really love Bianco Romano, River White, and there were a few others at the stoneyard that I almost chose. Some granites are more speckly and some have more of a flow or movement. I wanted the movement and a lot of the river whites I saw had that. If you decide to look for white macaubus call around first because not every stoneyard will have it. Sometimes they say they do, but when you get there you realize it's something else. And some of the macubuses have super dark black lines that go every which way. It took me a while to find the slab I wanted....See MoreKitchen refacing in a Tuscan house. White Shaker doors?
Comments (13)Are you sure the house isn't Spanish Colonial because arches, dark wood and exposed beams were more in that genre and your doors aren't really what used to be called Tuscan but are more faux Spanish. I don't think your home is vintage authentic architecturally anything but your kitchen doesn't resemble any of the "faux" Tuscan kitchens I have seen that were done 15 or so years ago. Not that it matters becaue most homes aren't authentically a specific style. However I do think that the quote for refacing is low considering you have a fairly large kitchen. Before proceeding, I would research further to ensure that you aren't getting an unrealistically low bid. I do agree that white would be wrong and that you need to go with warm tones of cream or off white and not cool white....See MoreHow to select White Quartz, white Cabinets and white backsplash
Comments (24)@Diana Bier That tile is stunning! I will have to stop by WZ today and see it in person. Thank you! Diana, here are my choices so far. Kitchen floor and living room, dining, entry, halls: Karastan Belleluxe engineered hardwood: Pashima finish. There is a beautiful gray in this wood that might not be visible in these pictures. I'm obsessed with this floor. Specs: 3/4" oak, seven inch planks (maybe 7-1/2"). Fake slate porcelain tile by Daltile in black for the adjacent family room where the dogs live, and laundry room, wet bar area. Our number one choice for quartz: Arizon Tile Silver Stallion Our current top choice for backsplash tile: 2-1/2 by 9-3/4 Arizona Tile in Pearl (very pale gray). Floor, Pearl Concerto Tile at the top, Silver Stallion quartz sample, Concerto tile in White. Flooring is locked and loaded, delivery is the end of this week or early next week. Cabinets arrive next Monday. I hope our selections work well together. What do you think, @Diana Bier ?...See Moremcegabby
