Forgive me as I must confess that although I love the warmth of wood gaining ground in these transitional kitchens, I find the massing in the boxey, rectangular range hoods off putting and prefer the angles of those that are more traditional, and less klunky.

The tile floors on concrete subfloors in my mom's Florida house always made my feet, legs, and hips ache within a day of arriving. Wearing shoes with squishy or thick rubber soles did NOT help. I figure it grealy speeded up her need for hip and knee replacements. Plus anything that fell on those tiles was guaranteed to break. Sweeping was hard due to the sunken grout lines, and the grout always looked dirty. So I disagree with suggestion #1. I will never live on anything but wood floors. If you've never lived on tile floors and are considering them, beware.
