Navy dining room update

Here is the before and the painted walls. So we didn't go navy but a lighter gray blue and I love it. Though looking at my colors with the yellow I might need to pick a new yellow.... (ideas always welcomed). The painting is still just holding a spot until I find something we/I love. Looking at the picture I just took.... might need to get rug. (Again thoughts?) Table is here for awhile longer but will get traded out eventually. Something round or oval because everything else is so boxy.
We did go big on the living room with green and my husband built an electric fireplace surround! (Work in progress) the opening on the left (possilby right too) is going to be floating shelves which will be filled with books. (I am an addict can't help it...) anyways if this isn't your taste no biggie but just wanted to give an update and get some feedback.

I love your dining room and your dining room set! I like having a place for the family to have a quiet dinner. I share your fondness for the blue and white look. I think with the soft blue above and the white below, you could go with a chair fabric in a navy range, maybe in a lattice. This is a fabric I chose recently, but our dining room is part of the kitchen and that door opens to the garage. The general colors are similar though: Think how different it would be if you choose a lattice pattern or a stripe than if you went with a floral/botanical in essentially the same color range. I hadn't intended that entry mat to be part of the color scheme in the photo, but now that I look at it, a dark rug under your table is a possibility. Not black, but dark, and probably not a solid - it would show every speck. I'm not getting how the drapes fit into the room. The green stripe just seems not to go at all, but it must (even if not perfect) or you wouldn't have gotten as far as trying it out. Could you post a picture that shows how the drape wall fits into the rest of the room?

I find the board and batten forcing the art to be hung too high but I love navy walls and especailly since the ceiling is already done . I find the china cabinet a bit odd for the space and IMO a nice buffet would be a better choice Yes you need a rug and then choose the covers for the chairs . I also do not ever like angled seating at a table it is so limiting I would suggest a nice round glass top if you want a glass table in quite thick glass and since I am not sure of the room size I can only guess at least as large as what you have, IMO if plants are not healthy do not use them and I always like drapes in DRs

And it seems blue is a color many are painting their cabinets...I love your family photos and a FAMILY ROOM is a great place. I know I am not put off when in another's home and see their pictures. If you ever put the house up for sale the rules change. The issue isn't the color you chose it's the idea of an accent wall. There are other threads here about that and seems they are OUT.

is there a specific reason the curtains dont go to the floor?

Yes... baseboard heaters... that's why we built the electric fireplace. I am hoping it will be enough heat to remove 2 baseboards. I have longer curtains I use in the summer/spring which I plan on getting out tomorrow. (First day of spring!). If it works out right I want to do floor to ceiling curtains though idk what color. I thought white but there is a LOT of it already.

The blue is a really nice color and looks especially good with your white cabinets. I'm wondering about what you might do on the white fireplace, though. It's a great concept but with the dark TV and fireplace, it seems a little too stark in white. Maybe think about facing it with tile or stacked stone someday? Or paint it a darker color. Not sure if the green would be right..maybe on the top and tile under the mantel? Maybe others will have suggestions.

I also think a new light fixture would be a great addition to the DR. Can you survive without the fan in there or is it necessary in your climate?

olychick... originally I had planned on painting the fireplace surround navy blue then it changed to the inside of the mantel/mantel legs a dark navy blue to help balance out the black hole of a tv my husband really wanted (fair trade for all his hard work haha but it is MASSIVE). I thought maybe the white would balance out my dining room bookcase because they are on the same wall.

Eventually we will box out the top of the bookcases to make them floor to ceiling so the heights will average out.

The hall way is currently undecided territory.... either green or blue I am thinking the blue which is reading very gray on my phone...

All trim will eventually be white though I would love to replace with a different colored wood, we just can't afford that option. We are going to put bigger baseboards in something in the 5in range these ones are just so tiny amd again in white.
